Best Value for Money Puppy Essentials

Hi OZB,

Looking at getting a new puppy that will turn into a large dog around 60cm at the withers/shoulders fully grown.

Any recommendations and/or deals for the following would be greatly apprecaited.

  • Dog bed (Pupnaps, Barney bed etc.)
  • Dog crate for training (Kmart, Dogit etc.)
  • Dog door (La Luna, Hartman etc.)
  • Dog enclosure/play pen (KUP Living Dog Exercise Pen)
  • Toys (Kong etc.)
  • Puppy food (Royal Canin, Hills Science etc.)
  • Collar and lead (Friends Forever etc.)
  • Puppy schools in Melbourne

Durability would be preferred, as well as something that won't need replacing when the dog outgrows it.

Please also let me know anything I may have missed.

Thanks in advance!

Puppies destroy anything not made of metal.

Just purchase at big W, reject shop etc for cheap, safe equipment until your puppy matures. Then you can buy better quality products.

Every brand you mentioned above is unnecessarily expensive and will just make you sad when a 4 month old labrador obliterates it's $60 collar. Unless your doing it for internet points on Instagram then save your money.

The only exception to my advise advice above is to buy decent quality food. Doesn't have to be Hills Science though unless your puppy has some exotic dietary requirements.

    • I agree; pups chew / destroy almost everything.
My understanding is that a dog bed size should be related to the dog size at that time (allow a little for growth)? Is that your experience?

Always had large breed dogs and soft fluffy beds aren't necessarily a good idea due possible hip and back issues. I've always just put a blanket on the ground for them and near the wood heater in winter to avoid the cold.

  • puppy school?

    • 100%, thanks

  • ChuckIT balls from amazon are amazingly durable and cheap.

Way better than kong balls imo.

    • Speaking of chuck its (best balls IMO), don’t skimp on a cheap ball thrower like us. Better off getting a good quality one like chuck it.
