I haven't checked shipping costs recently but the last time I did, it costs >$2000 for the full kit to be imported.
It may be cheaper now but this should come with Aussie warranty which is great, seeing as there aren't that many replacement parts available.
Took over 2 years to get it to Australia (Release date: 28 June 2019).

But they had issues with the silicon shortage (Microsoft and Apple bought the entire 12 month supply of some of the Index's key components early in the pandemic, Gabe was saying).

This is super high end gear. For most, there's no reason to pick it over the Oculus 2 for $479. I have mine hooked up to my PC and it's great
This is just incorrect, the Index is higher quality.
The need install base stations is a hard pass for me. When others can do inside-out tracking, then why can't Valve's pricey kit do it? I think I'm going to wait for the PSVR gen 2, which will hopefully be more reasonably priced.
because lighthouse based outside-in tracking is still the most accurate
I've spent maybe 30mins max setting up my base stations and have not needed to touch it since.
