Questions for Those Who Own a Keychron Keyboard?

Hi all,

I am thinking of buying the keychron k4 v2 with brown switches.

I wanted to know how is the Bluetooth connectivity? Does it drop off quite a lot? Or is it consistent?

Also wanted to ask you, does the height of the keyboard bother you a lot? I really don't want to get a wrist rest as I want to keep my desk minimal.

If you own a keychron k1 - thoughts on the low profile mech keyboard? Do you prefer a non-low profile mech keyboard.

Thanks!

P.S. I am happy to hear options other than keychron. It just has to have a numpad, be wireless and brown switches. I do not care for RGB. It would be a huge plus if I can connect it to 3 devices by hitting the F1/F2/F3 buttons. :)

I swap between the K2 and the MX keys regularly. i find with the K2 i definitely need a wrist wrest as otherwise after a long period of typing my wrists start to hurt whilst the MX i can use without a waist rest and find it better without.

As for bluetooth I run a a mac and windows set up and in b to cases I find after a period of inactivity the bluetooth in the k2 takes a short while to kick in where the first latter or two typed can be missed. Its not an issue where in use.

    • How is the height of the front of the K2? Are you able to measure it in cm? Trying to see if I can get away without a wrist rest and compare to my Ducky full board.

How high is the Ducky to the top of the spacebar?

User Bal said it was 30cm to top of space bar.

        • My Ducky zero is about 28mm to top of spacebar. Front plastic is 17mm thick.

          I assume he meant 30mm.

@hawkeyes0: It was late for me yesterday. I meant 30mm.

  • 30 cm to the top of the space bar.

Full size K1 with low profile reds here.

I love the low profile reds, as they are quick to type with good feel - but not crazy loud.

The Bluetooth on this model is pretty annoying tbh, as it goes to sleep far too quick… And I always lose 4 or 5 characters while it's waking up.

I've ended up just relying on the USB cable.

Can you not switch off the auto sleep using fn+s+O?

I have the K1 v4 RGB (TKL) with low profile reds and like it. Previous keyboard was a Corsair K65 (TKL) with cherry mx browns.

As mentioned by others, the Bluetooth stack does take a couple of seconds to wake up/connect from sleep or when switching to a different device. I haven't had dropouts at all during normal day to day use between three devices - Main PC, work laptop & client laptop. I get a full day of use on battery with the RGB lights on and plug the usb-c in to charge overnight.

RGB can be turned off with the dedicated light button but you have to cycle through ~15 profiles before it gets to the "off" profile. Switching to a different BT device is by pressing the <Fn>-1/2/3 keys, not the F1/F2/F3 keys. The F-row has laptop-style <Fn>-F1/F2/F3 etc profiles for screen brightness up/down, playback controls, volume etc.

The biggest issue I have is the "feel" of the keycaps themselves. Being low profile, they feel cheaper than full-size keycaps since there isn't as much plastic and they wobble slightly more. I still find them pleasant to type on, however.

Also thoughts on the K65? Do you miss it (apart from the size of keycap)?

    • This has been my experience with the Bluetooth as well - only slow waking up, but fine once it's on. Would still recommend these keyboards.

  • Does anyone know where can I get a K3 in Australia? Is K6 the nearest in terms of its dimensions? I'm after a portable one that I can bring to work with me.

    • Your best bet would be searching the sales channels on mechanical keyboard Discord groups such as https://discord.gg/MTw6e9qe. A lot of 2nd hand stuff on there, but most of it is in very good condition.

I'd probably want some PBT keycaps down the track, I went for the Keychron K1v4 so that I could use it in varying positions including on my lap to reduce wrist RSI

This actually seems to have a pretty poor bluetooth antenna / rage; checked the subreddit for the same issues; I got some extension cables and let the adapter sit on top of my desk, (as others have mentioned few secs to wakeup on bluetooth doesn't queue in the input so you lose that input)
