Bought a 5600x through one of the deals recently posted and realised I now need a new motherboard too. You can save yourself a few bucks by buying the older B450. Also it seems AMD might be releasing a new socket soon anyway
Saw this on Amazon, and this is pretty much the cheapest price it's ever been.
NOTE: I'm pretty sure you need to flash the bios for the B450s to be compatible (i.e. you will need an older AM4 chipset or will need to ask a store/friend to do for you)

Alternatively, if you need your BIOS flashed, could try purchasing direct from landmark who have it for $129 + shipping and email them to see if they'll flash for you.
Otherwise you'll need to buy a B550 or X570 for compatibility out of the box

EDIT: landmark computers was cheaper for me. $129 with free shipping in Melbourne

    I have this motherboard. Good motherboard but terrible VRM. Hit's 95 - 100 degrees with a 5900x.

    • AIO or air cooler?

    • That was always the take on these B450 Aorus Pro boards, that the design caused higher VRM temps, although I believe since then testing has come back that the VRMs were not actually getting that hot, and that it's actually the temp sensor reading a bit high.

I've been using a 2700x in one, clocked up playing MSFS and other CPU intensive tasks and games, and yeah it shows 10+ degrees warmer than you'd like it under load, but otherwise no issues, so I'm inclined to believe the reading is off.

Having said that, a 5900x is a different kettle of fish, and my standard CPU cooler is probably keeping VRM cooler as well. Probably set up a fan just on the VRMs to keep cool.

+1 for a B550 for similar price though

      • I've used OCCT to stress test 5900x and I doesn't go above 70 for VRM. Using cinebench multi causes vrm to hit 95

  • Theres a Gigabyte B550 for $109 here: https://rosmancomputers.com.au/amd-b550-gaming-mb-w-digital-…

    Not sure on features/VRM though.

Very likely that any new B450 boards that you find on the market now will have been pre-flashed to a BIOS that supports 5th gen, but it is still a little bit of a gamble.

To be honest for anything over $100 I'd be trying to find a cheap B550 board instead (e.g. the B550M Tuf Wifi that's $149 from PCCG https://www.pccasegear.com/products/50516/asus-tuf-gaming-b5…)
