Best Android Tablet Deal

Hi all,

Im looking at getting an Android tablet on a 12 or 24 month plan with approx 1GB data included. I have seen the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 on Optus for $49/month inc 4GB data, and Vodafone for $39/month inc 1.5GB data.

Im happy to have an older gen tablet (Motorola Xoom etc) if the price is lower. I basically want the cheapest decent Tablet deal with 1Gb min data inclusive.

Thanks!

  • Get a xoom

32gb wifi - Retravision for $350 (or cheaper depends on how good you can bargain).

And tether off your mobile phones internet.

    • is it $350? I cannot get online pricing?

      • Call them up, I called a few store around my place. they are either $348 or $349.

Kogan is selling Agora 7 inch for A$149 and free shipping (until midnight today or stock lasts).

  • Make sure you go with a name tablet (and that "name" does not include Optus or Telstra branded tablets). You'll pay a bit more than for tablets like the Agora, but in the current, undeveloped tablet market you really do get what you pay for.

Samsung are good, the Xoom is supposed to be more business-focussed, or you could go for the Asus Transformer/Transformer Prime. I think they're the big three in the market at the moment, although you may also want to consider the Acer Iconia A500/A501 (wifi/3g).

As citamami suggested, if you have a phone that'll allow it (and a decent data plan for your phone) you can buy a wifi tablet and tether off your phone. This will probably require that you download some wifi software from your phone's app store. Personally, I use "Tethering Widget" off the Android Market, which lets me turn the network on and off from a widget on my home screen.

  • Go with the xoom, typing on it right now, its great. and its much better than the galaxy tab in my opinion!

  • Thanks for the replies everyone.

Problem with tethering is I only have 200MB data on my current mobile plan (never really had the need for mobile data because 90% of the time I was at work or home and used wifi). Now Im going to be on the road alot and need a larger data plan and a tablet.

I figure if I buy a tablet outright it will be a larger cost upfront but cheaper in the long run, but I will still need to purchase a monthly data plan on top.

I would prefer to bundle the cost of the tablet into a monthly fee inclusive of data so its easier to manage the cost over a longer period. That said, I don't need the latest and greatest (Galaxy Tab) and would be happy with the older Motorola Xoom but can't find much in the way of plans, besides this one from Optus for $34/month for 1GB - https://www.optus.com.au/shop/Broadband/Modems-&-Tablets-Car… But at only $5 less than the Galaxy for $39 with 1.5Gb it seems better to go with the Galaxy.

Does anyone know of any cheaper plans for the Xoom or similar Tablet? Maybe around $30/month?

Optus deals for business. $40/mth for 12 months.

Xoom 32gb + 2gb data per month. total cost $480. Very decent. but you must have an ABN… .but everybody knows how easy it is to get an ABN.

      Cheers,

    • Get more data on your mobile plan, or a data pack add-on, then just a WiFi tablet.

Maybe a netbook is an option?

  • You can try dodo's ZTE pad on a 19.90 plan over a 24 month contract. It is an unlocked TABLET, has built in 3g, Wi-fi enabled, 3 mp camera and so forth. The data allowance is 1.5 gb month. Please try this link: https://connectto.dodo.com/wireless/Planselection.aspx?ct=24.

    cheers

That thing has only Android 2.1 and 256MB memory. Looks like a terrible tablet to suggest especially on 24 month contract.
