  • Thanks OP!

How do these compare to the Coles brand ones you can find on the bottom shelf? They do seem to do the trick… But happy to try something new and on sale.

    • +5

Home brands? They do the trick but generally these have added benefits like quick drying and etc. I find the generic ones even the basic tabs doesn't dry as fast and have water marks. If you're fine with these, then you don't need them.

    • +1

The cheap ones tend to attack aluminium pots/utensils turning them black (the powders/tablets do at least). That's why I stuck with Finish except for that one time. Not sure how the newer formulations perform.

      • +5

But you shouldn't be washing aluminium in the dishwasher.

      • +4

All retail dishwashing tablets turn non anodised aluminium black. It's the alkalinity of the tablets/powder and very hot water.

    • +3

I can't stand these personally - I find they leave a residual soap smell flavour, particularly on silicone or plastics that then leaches into the food.

    • Thanks for the feedback, will give them a go.

  • +1

Grabbed 90 of the Platinum Plus ones, for $36. Happy with that!

  • +2

    Price in title. Good deal!

  • +4

Better off using powder so you can take advantage of the prewash.

    • looked in both coles and woolies but never found powder.
      \where do you get yours?

      • +2

ALDI and IGA tend to have powder.
Great video explanation here of you have a lot of spare time:
        https://youtu.be/_rBO8neWw04

        • +2

Coles and Woolies both sell powder on the bottom shelf. I find the Aldi one (top shelf) the best though.. also has a better lid.
Woolies made in China, Aldi and Coles made in Australia

          • @jm7: I've looked at both stores and different locations but never seen any. Will keep my eye open though.

          • +1

@jm7: I currently have the Aldi one. Seems to be as good as the Coles, which I used prior to this.
Be careful if you have children around as the Aldi one does not have a child safety cap.

        • I watched that video when it was posted a few deals back. Really fascinating.
No Aldi in Darwin and only a few small IGAs in out of the way places.
But I will keep on looking.

          • +1

@DarwinBoy: Can't be bothered watching the video. Can you please summarise.

            • @teardrops21: I find the verbal speed on most YT videos to be slow so I speed it up to 1.5 or 1.75x.

Maybe they're a bit too slow for my liking lol

            • +1

@teardrops21: What i took from it was that the dishwasher has a prewash cycle so use it.
Put a broken tab or some powder in the bottom to start. Then hide your little dishwasher tablet in the dispenser like you are suppose to and that's how it's meant to work. you should get the best from your machine that way.

              • @DarwinBoy: Cheers, thanks

              • @DarwinBoy: My old Bosch has a separate section for the prewash, and a covered up section to dispense during the wash. I used powder in both sections.

    • but powder does go off faster.

Thanks mate. Got 3 packs at my local for pickup.

And much better to support an Australian business than the tax-dodging, employee mistreating multinational that is Amazon.

  • +2

    These smell bad

    • +36

      Pot kettle black?

      • -6

You smelt me before? I've tried these and when you touch the tablets they stink. Best I've found to use are the finish 0% tablets.

        • +16

          Who hasn't smelt a turd?

        • +5

          Whoosh

        • Sorry mate, it was just a play on your username, youknow?

    • +14

and don’t get me started on the flavour.

      • you are not supposed to taste it !

        • +1

they should have said that on the box!

    • +4

Agreed they're incredibly overpowering. I have some I bought and keep as backup but stopped using due to the odour.

      • +4

Same here. I couldn't get to an Aldi to grab our usual Logix so grabbed some Fairy ones at woolies when they were on clearance. Sure they clean just fine, but the scent is overpowering to the point where you can taste it as you're eating/drinking. I've sealed them away as an emergency stash for when there's no other option

      • +2

Bought fairy once. I was willing to give them another go but it sucks that they haven't improved this. People on product review are lamenting the same. I just don't understand how people can't smell / taste it on plastics. That vile lemon smell permenantly bonds to plastics.

Say what you want about finish but it doesnt turn your dishes into a cheap toilet freshener.

    • +4

I couldn't agree more. What was most noticeable was that it left a particular smell on any silicone stuff that we have, of which we have a lot for the baby. I never realised it was the fairy tablets until someone mentioned it and since switching the issue has gone away.

      • +1

Yep. What did you switch to?

https://www.finishinfo.com.au/products/detergents/finish-tab… is what I use now

        • +2

Yep, we switched to those to and I really like them. The latest ones we got were the Coles ones. Neither the Finish or the Coles one leave the strong smell and taste on silicone. It was so bad our kids actually didn't want to eat and I originally threw out a load of stuff before realising that it wasn't the silicone, rather it was the tablets.

        • We mainly use finish. Tried the cheap alternative like the also logix and although it cleans well, it scratches glassware in our experience.

      • +3

I had this exact problem too. Went to taste my kid's food to make sure it wasn't too hot and all I could taste was the scent from the Fairy tablets.

  • Got 4 packs thanks!!

  • Thanks OP - 5 packs here to replenish to see out the calendar year.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Got 4x for $38 using a $10 off (with $39 spend) code through Amazon app.

    • Where did you find this $10 code? Thanks.

      • +2

        APPONLY10

It came up on the website for me but it prompts you to download the app

  • +1

Going to wash my dishes real good

  • Great price. Great tablets .

As somebody who has used the full range of fairy products, I can definitively say ( at least from my experience ) that anything more than the basic fairy tablet is a waste of money. They all wash exactly the same!

Adding a 1 ml of red liquid to the pod and charging 30% more is nothing more than marketing nonsense.

    • Thanks I will give the normal tablets a go.. if I remember this in 9 months when my platinum and platinum plus supplies are running low.

    • Sorry but i do agree with you on this. I ordered Fairy Platinum plus from woolies and they sent me Fairy Platinum which does not clean as well as the plus.

      • Do or don't ?

        • Don't

          • @rack: OK,

I think it's a case of YMMV with dishwasher tablets.

  • How do these compare with Finish Quantum varieties as they go on sale quite often and usually cheaper?

  • +1

Has anyone tried both the platinum and the platinum plus? Is there much difference?

  • I'm new to dishwashers, have used finish ultimate pro lemon so far, anyone have experience with the ultimate pros vs fairy platinum plus?

  • Bought some already but anyone have thoughts on Fairy vs. Finish tablets? I've used both, though more recently started using Fairy which left me pleasantly surprised. My AEG dishwasher has a sticker that recommends the Finish, so was using that for quite some time. I thought Fairy was just as good if not better

    • +1

Used to use Finish, tried Fairy a year ago and found it quite a bit better. Have been using it since. Regretted the years of using Finish…but we move on.

    • I recently finished a big mama pack of Finish tablets from a previous Amazon deal, and there were a lot of frustrating times where I'd find the tablet didn't fully dissolve after a load. Probably won't buy them again.

While I haven't yet used the Fairy tablets as much, they're always completely gone once the wash is done.

  • +16

These dishwasher tablets are a bit of a wank really.

I find the Aldi Logix do an amazing job - nothing every comes out dirty:
    https://www.aldi.com.au/en/groceries/laundry-household/house…
    19c per tablet.

The only time there's an issue is if it's stacked wrong and water can't flow between items.

Fairy I've tried in the past, and yes it washes just as well as the Aldi, but the smell is so strong I can't stand it - plastic items even retain this smell and I find I can sense it when using it. Yuck.

So in summary, cleans well, but perfume is ridiculously over the top. Buy Aldi instead and save.

As mentioned above, powder is good for pre-wash, I've even bought the powder as well from aldi and if items in the dishwasher are very dirty I put a bit of powder in the pre-wash section along with the regular tablet. The other tip is to use the dishwasher on a decent cycle - don't use quick washes or eco cooler cycles. I use 65 degrees which goes for just under 2 hours and no issue.

    • +1

I also notice if I fill my glasses from the fridge (high pressure stream) after the fairy tablets I see a small residue of bubbles on the surface of the water which I don't get from the aldi tablets. It might be non toxic but still weirds me out. Of course there's lots of factors to this but even the longest cycle at highest temp with minimal stacking in our Asko dishwasher won't rinse it all off.

    • +2

Different machines work better with different tablets. I also found that the Aldi ones work great with my current dishwasher. My old dishwasher worked better with the fairy ones, but with the new dishwasher I find that if I use the fairy tabs then I have to wash them twice.

    • How does Aldi's Complete vs Platinum compare?

      • +1

I find them much the same.

    • Completely agree. We had Finish powerball Quantum's that come with our Bosch dishwasher, we used them up and then switched to the cheapest Powerball classic (12c a tablet), we didn't notice any difference in the quality of the wash.

    • +2

I used 3 different dishwashing machines over the past 5 years and found the Aldi dishwashing powder is the best for cleaning and price wise.

  • never tried fairy ones so I order a few :)

  • we use eco ones. If you look at the cost per tablet fairy is very expensive, even with this offer. The eco ones seem fine, everything is clean.

  • +3

A word of warning for Fairy, I find they leave a taste on the cups. Won't buy again.

  • Which is better? Fairy or Finish powerball

    • I use only these two brands. Both are excellent, I tend to just buy whichever of the two is cheapest.

    • Fairy Platinum work better than Finish or Finish Powerball in my machine. Finish Quantum are about equal to Fairy Platinum for me.

  • I don't want to be tasting the smell everytime I eat. These are too strong smelling. Tried once, never again.

  • Do these work ok for quick wash cycles or do you need to do the full cycle

    • There's a good youtube video that explains why tablets don't work well in quick cycles. In those - use powder.

I don't think there's anything wrong with powder per se, I think tablets are preferred just for convenience.

  • -1

I just use the cheapest dishwashing liquid. It works just as well

    • +1

Dishwashing liquid in a dishwasher? Don't think that's recommended - either tablets or powder, but not handwashing dish liquid.

      • It is not recommended but it works just as well.

      • Used it when I was in a pinch. Gotta use it sparingly through. You don't want a bubble bath.

        • I just use the cheapest, fill it to the top and never had a problem.

  • +1

these tablets are the worst. they give off the worst chemical smell both in product and after using. wouldn't recommend.

    • +1

      Totally agree

  • Wow amazing price, got some thank you OP

  • Is the platinum plus worth it over the the normal Platinum AIO giving the almost 50% difference in price?

  • +3

Am I the only one who buys the 110 pack of Finish tablets from Chemist Warehouse? Been using them for years without any issues. Only time there's food left is when I've stacked the dishes wrong.

    https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/79075/finish-classic…

Oh look they're down to $15. I think Reject Shop have them too.

    • Found with baby bottles they leave a layer that the pricier tablets don't. Same with 2 different dishwashers.

    • Use them too and cheaper than Aldi. Works fine for me and great value at 13c per tablet.

  • Dammit !!

These guys stole my gaming name !

  • Good deal thanks for the post OP
