Closure of Honda Authorised Dealer

Hi, as you might be aware some of the Honda Authorised Dealer are shutting. I have a situation I thought if anyone can give me some advices.

I bought my car brand new from a Honda Authorised Dealer, at the time of purchase, I was given another two free servicing on top of the very first one. It is recorded on the Authorised Dealer's record, not on the Honda general extended warranty. They actually forget about it and charged me on the 24th months servicing. Luckily, I have a document to proof I should get two free servicing so they shifted it to the 36 months servicing for free.

I have been servicing at the same dealer since first day. I have no issue with any of the servicing.

As they are shutting down soon on 30th June, I rang up today they told me they are fully booked till end of June.

The servicing advisor don't seems to care much. I was told there is nothing they can do for the last free servicing that I am supposed to get since they are fully booked out, and obviously it cannot be transferred to another dealer. The advisor told me I should have got a servicing reminder in May so I can book earlier for June but I didn't get any reminder at all.

Based on Honda servicing plan - https://www.honda.com.au/en/owners/servicing, I am looking at 36 month servicing that would cost me $312 for the base service if it is not free.

I am not sure if Additional Service - Adaptive Items for 36 months servicing are inclusive in the free servicing.

Replace brake fluid - $58.00
Replace HCF-2 Fluid - $172.00
Replace Cabin/Dust & Pollen filter - $45.00

May I ask what are my options and rights now?

Thank you

May I ask what are my options and rights now?

Your contract is with the selling dealer. Selling dealer is shutting, so you're SOOL.

    • Yeah. I thought i could save few hundreds bucks in time like this. Not driving a fancy car just honda crv.

        • Eh the car is fine for my use. Thank you.

@OhNoUShiz: I doubt the dealer will bend over backwards to accomodate a zero $ customer. $s is their business.

      • Why did you pay for the 24 month service when it should’ve been free?

  • +2

Maybe the Dealer can fit you in if someone cancels. Ask if there is a wait list…

    • I did. He said there is 100 in front of me. I am going to ring daily to ask if anyone cancels.

      • I'd say you don't stand much of a chance when they know you're getting it for free - surely they'd prioritise paying customers in the wait list

  • Depreciation loss on your new car will outweigh the benefits from included complimentary services in most cases.
It is unfortunate but you might have to take it on the chin.

But i still lost a free servicing. Ozb in me cannot take that.

      • ask if they can supply the parts then fit yourself or take to another place

Get a cabin filter off ebay and diy… dead simple. Unless you are travelling outback dirt roads daily it can be left for a few more years.
    "Replace HCF-2 Fluid - $172.00"
    After only 36 months? probably 45k/k? Ouch…

Nothing you can do. The dealer has clearly given you the flick as you would be a $0 customer anyway. You could seek legal advice and chase it further to achieve some sort of compensation but is it worth it?
Even if they did book you in they could do a quick workshop drive through and wack the stamp in the book. As they are closing you would have buckleys chance of doing anything about it, and they know it.

Find a reputable local mechanic and move on. In time you will save enough money over the cost of dealership servicing to cover the lost free service.

    • Thanks for your advice. I am on low mileage probably 16,000km now. So you reckon changing the hcf2 can wait? I am on urban driving only and since locked down didn’t travel regional.

      • When you find a good local mechanic he will give you the best advice re your transmission.
Unless it is a very fragile transmission 16k/k is way too early. I know nothing about Honda transmissions or what type of Honda you have. It would be a CVT so it would require more servicing than a regular transmission in say a Toyota for example.

" I am on urban driving only and since locked down didn’t travel regional."
In that case dont sweat over the cabin filter for another few years yet.

Honda crv 2018 so yeah cvt.

        • +1

Honda cvt fluid needs to be genuine and replaced regularly more like every 10-15k
          Very fragile cvt.

            @Stewardo: @stewardo

Tell that to my Honda Jazz first gen CVT (GD1) that is still going strong and being thrashed daily at 240,000km's , CVT transmission oil changes done every 40k.

  • They actually forget about it and charged me on the 24th months servicing.

Well, if I'm reading this correctly, it seems like it's not just the dealer's fault, but also your fault.

    • Partly. Yeah but i brought it up and they honour it last year.

      • I mean, it seems like both of you "forgot" about it at the time and it's too late now.

I'm not sure what you can do about it right now, but I definitely wouldn't try and get them to do it by force (like complaining or whatever) since there's so many things they can sabotage in a car if you piss them off.

        • That is true.but i am really a nice guy. I think i will just ring the reception if there is any cancellations.

So assuming they did sabotage my car and i am dead, won’t anyone be liable? At least honda head office?

          • @OhNoUShiz: When I say "sabotage", I don't mean cutting the brake lines or anything that'll kill or seriously injure you. I'm thinking something that'll annoy you that's hard to find or fix.. like a prawnhead in the vents or something like that. Or a loosening a screw or two so something rattles forever that'll drive you crazy. lol. Who knows… but me personally, I just wouldn't hand my car over to anyone that I've just pissed off!

          • @OhNoUShiz: If you are dead, would it matter?

  • Keep calling them daily and lodge a case with fair trading see if that gets the ball rolling ?

    • The reason they gave is fully booked out. Dont know how true is that. I used to be able to book just one week in advance. It can’t be every customer like me has a free servicing to use. Yeah i will probably ring them daily just to ask.

      • I would avoid them. As they are closing you are most likely to just get a stamp in the logbook and nothing else.

An old friend who used to be a service manager used to do this often when they over booked or were short staffed.
Occasionally someone would realise nothing had been done and they would be all humble and appologise and ask them to bring it in again.
Most never caught on… they had the stamp in the book… that is all they wanted.

Where is this so I never go here

  • You could write nasty reviews like the OP that keeps buying from the same website. But you are a nice guy, so you’ll see this as better luck next time. :)

    • Sorry just curious. Which op are you referring to?

Make an official complaint to Honda head office.

    • Yeah. I did call head office previously about the forgotten free servicing from dealership. At that time i did not know whether should dealership or head office was going to honour it. Head office told me it was between me and dealership. I reckon they will say the same this time. Haha.

tell them you are considering change tires and also want to install some assessories. I'm sure they will find you a spot

    • Hahaha. This is pretty good suggestion

Give Honda Australia a call? I know my Dad had a series of difficult to solve issues which, with the intervention of Honda HQ, ended up working out OK. Obviously a sample size of one but he seemed impressed with their service and customer care.

    • ruffling feathers with the mother ship to give the dealer shit….
that being a dealer that doesnt care anymore maybe worse.you never know what sort of work they will do

just move on adn enjoy your car

    • +1

Why would a dealership that's closing care about what the HQ says any more?

      • Might point you in the direction of another dealer and organise for it to be done there? Honda have an interest in keeping you happy so that you hopefully buy another Honda in future…

        • Dealers are franchised essentially, so no the other dealer won't cop the free service unless they manage to get the original selling dealer to foot the bill.

Either way, it'll be an uphill battle given that the original dealer is closing the doors. Gotta think of all those people who will shortly be out of a job… do you think they'd care about someone's free service?

    • I did that, and it works. so, they have arranged my servicing with another branch under same dealership, but also closing. However, they have available bookings so I did get my free servicing after all.

  • Get them to give you the money for the 24th month service back then, since they can't for fill their promise to do the 36month service now they are closing

    • +2

OP: Can I have my money back for a service you provided?
      Dealer: No
OP: But you owe me a free service
      Dealer:Don’t care
OP: This is bad customer service, I’ll leave bad reviews online
      Dealer: ….
OP: I’m telling all my friends to not come here
      Dealer: We are closing down.
      OP: You’ve lost a customer
Dealer: We aren’t going to have ANY customers.

      • I get your drift. That would be the same if you went to the same claims tribunal, wouldn't it?
How about just getting all the parts instead & you can go to another place for the labour? You listed some parts, now add the oil & filter. Tell them to throw in a set of brake pads and what else you can think. What city are you in? Why can't they transfer the service? Go to Honda Head Office, they will do it right by you

    • If they refuse, what next?

      • Go up 5 & read the one by spedohero (OP), he did it, he won
