Looking for Ultrabook with Good Battery Life. (Budget around $1500)

Hi. Looking for a new laptop/ultrabook for my c.ousin for school. He needs a thin and light laptop that also has good battery life for around 1500$. (under 1.5kg is preferrable)

Looking for at least quad core with some graphics capabilities since he does quite a bit of 3d modeling. While also using for school so need around at least full day battery life. I have looked around and saw some deals for HP envy and Yoga Slim 7i Lenovo laptop.

To be honest, they are both almost perfect because of how light and thin they are while packing a decent punch for processing. However the battery life doesn't look too good on those. Also considered thinkpads but So far only the T and E series are available and those are considered too heavy whilst also not having the best battery.

So far the best looking laptop so far seems to be the LG gram deal from a few days ago. That tiny laptop has amazing battery size for its size but after reading reviews the build quality doesn't seem to be too good.

Any takers?

  • Would you consider a MacBook Pro or air?

I never did. Now I am not looking back!

    • I was recommending my cousin the M1 mac Soo much. But some of his apps he use for 3d modelling and rendering doesn't support macos

  • +3

I feel like Macbook Air is unbeatable at the moment, base model is a pretty good price for what it offers. Tempted to upgrade from my X1 Carbon.

  • Lenovo Carbon X1.
Bought one and haven't looked back. Keyboard is second to none.

    • if u can find me a X1 carbon for my price range I will buy you a pizza

      • Ebay
        I'll take a supreme thanks.

        • With Pineapple?

      • You should be able to find one pretty easy. I'm lucky and got mine from Graysonline for $650 years ago. Love the keyboard and portability of it, but getting a bit slow/noisy and battery life has never been great.

  • MSI Modern 14 maybe? It's a slightly older laptop that's being cleared out. You get a choice of either Ryzen or 10th gen Intels with discrete nvidia gpu

My current machine is a Thinkpad X13 with AMD ryzen 5 4650 pro. Very nice laptop, and is generally around the $1.5k mark… when it's in stock.

The display on the Lenovo Slim7i is also pretty nice (QHD) as well but the downside is the budget model only has 8GB of non upgradable memory.

    • Owned the MSI myself. Build quality is really bad (so much deck flex, if I pick up the laptop with 1 hand the entire deck flexes a few degrees). Ended up returning it

But the Lenovo X1 looks perfect. Will keep an eye out for stock

  • Dedicated graphic is important for 3d rendering.
This is probably the closest I can think of, has a 1650ti, relatively decent screen(120Hz, 300nits and 100% sRGB), 1.6kg.

If budget is tight then consider the ex-demo they are selling.

    • Honestly that's the cheapest I've seen the g14 before. Looks great! Thanks for the suggestion

      • Computer alliance had a 15% off sale during click frenzy, which works out cheaper than this I think (not sure).
G14 with 1650ti is 2020 model, you may be able to find it in the clearance section of some JB Hi-Fi.

    • "NO AniMe Matrix available on this model"

B…but… This is an ESSENTIAL Feature!

      • lol, you seriously want a programmable array of LED that says phoooon hooo on the lid?

        • haha just joking. Honestly would put an apple logo on the back just for lols.
