Gyms are getting desperate these days apparently. People seem to be realising unless you're trying to get huge muscles they just aren't worthwhile.

    • +3

Seem to be opening up everywhere as well. Going to be a lot of pain coming for most of them. I think Fitness first needs to reduce it monthly fees quite a bit to compete. Have spoken to a few people who have switched to anytime fitness recently.

Fitness first is ridiculously expensive. I pay $8 a week for a basic membership with no locking contract. It’s got everything I need

        • What gym are you with?

          • @Dealzallday: I signed up for a special deal at crunch. Without special deals it’s still $10 which is a good price for my gym as it is massive and got plenty of space and equipment
            Their wifi is hopeless though

        • -2

It was. but now, it is affordable.

    • I like my muscles 💪

  • Hi, is it a time locking contract? I have fear of commitment

    • We do 3 months membership if you're not ready to commit 12 or 18 months contract. Happy to chat. Just email me. :)

      • Wow. Month to month would be the norm these days

        • I agree. In the industry that I am working at, which is using annual / lock in subscriptions, they are beneficial for our services as our memberships provide unlimited access to all clubs and fitness classes. It encourages long time members to commit and cashflow to sustain them. :)

      • I suppose the 3 months membership would have a higher cost per week, what would be the cost per week of starting a new membership + 3 months lock? I was at Good Life before and they tried to keep me at $14 when I left, it'd be great if I found something in that range

        • Hi Bubbleshark, it will be approx. $23 - $26 per week. This price includes unlimited access to all group fitness classes and all gym floor across Australia. It is a little more premium that the other gym. I recommend you to check out the FF gym first. :)

          • +1

@zhen tan: Thanks for the info. As for premium than other gyms, I have visited Lutwyche's FF about a year ago to compare with other gym and I can tell you the equipment was so old I was wondering if it wasn't 20yo … at least they have a pool I guess

A lot of fitness first prices are really expensive $22.5 a week with a student discount.
Crunch is $10 a week and only a little difference in quality.

    • +3

I agree. I am just here to post what I have on my table which is better than student discount. If you already enjoy with Crunch gym, that's all good man. :)

    • Is Crunch actually that price though? If you click through on the $9.95 per week Base membership it then adds on an Annual Maintenance Fee of $39.90, then a $1 per fortnight "Pay as you go" membership fee as well.

      • I pay $8 a week for a yearly deal. Not too sure about the $39.90 fee and other which I think should be free if you signup during the free signup events. A year ago they also offered 4 weeks free so pretty much $6 a week for me.

  • Is this valid for Syndal branch?

    • We do 3 months, 12 months, and 18 months contract. Depending on which one are you looking at. :)

    • Yes. Do you mean Glen Waverley, Melbourne?

  • +4

    Where’s the bargain?

    • Deal already got removed earlier. Yet it's been posted again

Fitness First is shocking in Brisbane. Equipment hasn’t been updated in years, some of it is even rusty. All of the decent PTs have left. Classes like RPM and group fitness classes significantly reduced.

Elizabeth Street recently reduced hours and are only open 8-12pm on Sundays. Other gyms are going 24 hours and FF are going backwards…

    • I am sorry to hear that. I am based in Melbourne so I am not too sure with Brisbane condition.

      • Goodlife (which is owned by the same parent company) has cheaper fees, better equipment, more locations and is open longer hours.. at least in QLD

        • Ah I see. Are you with Goodlife atm?

          • @zhen tan: Some GoodLife gyms in SA are so outdated.

      • But yes I think FF look after their clubs a lot better in VIC and NSW compared to QLD.

        • Yeah true. I can't speak for others but I am actually really happy to work in my specific club. Thank you for your positive statement JHoliday, appreciate it.

        • You wouldn't say that if you were a member at Castle Towers in Sydney. Threadbare filthy carpets, holes and chips in walls, old equipment in group fitness room (like 15 years old, no joke) and bikes in cycle room broken (to the point of being dangerous). I have given feedback multiple times, but their head office doesn't care - until someone gets seriously hurt and a lawsuit happens.

          • @robbyjones: I am sorry to hear that Robby. I hope the FF Castle Towers will upgrade in the future. As I mentioned, I am based in Melbourne and FF overall in Melbourne are very well equipped, new and clean. :)

          • +1

@robbyjones: Castle hill still in 100 times better shape than pennant hills.

  • +3

The real cost is when you want to cancel lol, endless harassment :)

    • Why is that? :)

  • Hey,

Can I get any trial period for free?

    • +2

Yup! just email me at [email protected] and I will explain everything. I will make sure I keep everything transparent.

  • I've already got a membership. Wondering if there's a referral program where referrer+ referee get a couple weeks extra for free?

    • Yes. If you refer a friend, and they joined, both of you and your buddy will get 2 weeks for free. It caps at 5 new members = 10 weeks free.

      • So if someone joined with your promotion, they'd get 6 weeks free?

        • Yup. So if they do 12 or 18 months, they will get ( 4 weeks free deal + 2 weeks referral). If 3 months, they will get ( 2 weeks free deal + 2 weeks free referral).

  • Is the ridiculous joining fee waived on 18 month memberships? And is this offer Australia-wide?

    • Yes. No joining fee, No annual maintenance fee, no add-up fee. :)

    • Happy to chat over a phone call. Just email me at [email protected]

  • If I want to get referred by an existing member, do I need to apply with her in person or can I just use her phone no./ membership no.?

    • When you mean you want to get referred by an existing member and getting that 2 weeks free referral, then yes, you need to apply with the existing member in person. But I believe if you can provide some sort of acknowledgement ( existing member have a conversation with our one of our team members ), it works too. Are you looking to join one?

  • Hey Zhen,

I'm currently with Fitness First but I've finished up my 12 month contract. Was wondering if I could renegotiate my contract to get it cheaper?

    Cheers

    • Yeah you can. Just email me at [email protected] and I will assist you.

    • Hi Postform, are you still happy to discuss over the email? Cheers mate.

  • +1

There is no deal here more like an adverisement.

    • -3

      You do you. :)

  • Anyone know is there are gyms with membership that let me go to whatever branch I want ? That also who have a decent nationwide footprint. In the process of finishing up my van fit out and thought a membership might be nice if I can use it wherever I go . If I am stuck with only the one location, well that would be me out.

    • You're looking at one mate. If you are keen happy to chat. Email me at [email protected] Cheers.

  • Welcome to OzSpam.

Weather its unwanted harassment over the phone
or unwarranted credit card transactions Fitness First does it all.

Just a heads up, once you're signed up it's extremely predatory behaviour if you want to leave.
You have to buy out your contract and they won't give you any concessions.

Gyms with contracts btw really are a dying breed, avoid them like the plague and go to one that bills week to week where you can leave anytime.
