What Do You Have on/with Your Rice?

I was eating some Chicken Teriyaki and rice today, with necessary Kewpie and it got me thinking that I eat Kewpie with rice but would never have regular mayo with rice.

When I was growing up, my mum would always put butter on our rice and we'd have potato crisps as a poor version of pappadums or a cup of chicken stock (from a stock cube, no Campbells back then) as a makeshift soup….I still do a lot of this today.

Does anyone else have anything on/with their rice that is normal for them but others may consider it odd? Or any flavour sensations that I should know about?

  • back in the day, i ate rice with sugar, coconut water, banana, fish sauce, soy sauce, and now vegemite

  • mustard

  • As someone who eats rice twice everyday, the best way to eat it is with cooked vegetables or meat, lentil, tomato chutney and fried choy sum.

  • Nothing, because I cant eat rice & keep my calorie intake below 1000 a day. Honestly dont miss it after a few weeks, just have extra veg instead.

it takes about 1500-2000 calories per day to live.

Do you just lie still all day long?

      • No, but I am losing significant weight every week.

I have been a fatass forever, keeping below my calorie usage even if I do zero exercise is solving that issue very quickly. I am honestly shocked how well it is working. Just load up with enough protein via collagen powder to exceed what is needed to maintain current muscle & I am not even hungry like I was every other time I tried to lose weight.

Apparently every other diet I have tried shorted on protein & the best way to solve that is protien powder, rather than meat. Finding a dietician that isn't mostly full of woo has been great.

        • Good work, keep it up!

For anyone else reading this that needs to lose some weight. Low carb is the way to go! It works so well, You really don't have to exercise and you'll lose so much weight it's not funny, you don't get hangry and can focus on your day so much better.
All that being said. I highly recommend exercise for physical & mental health. But hey start with the diet and see how you feel!

When I was growing up my cheap go to was fried spam with lots of tomato sauce on top of freshly cooked rice.

These days I can afford to add a couple of fried eggs as well.

  • When I am cooking my rice I throw on some egg noodles bacon bit mixed veg (Pea;s Carrots and corn) and some diced ham or some chopped up pork sausages

P.S I also replace the water when cooking with chicken stock

  • Baishanzu mushroom sauce. Pretty spicy tho.

  • Soy Sause .
Besides mining and housing the rest of consumer spending is well down .
So i guess those of us in any other part of the economy is joining my nice dish.

    • I think there's a lot of ideas in here that wouldn't break the bank but mix things up to avoid repetition

  • freshly cooked from a rice cooker
crack a raw egg into the rice.
    add salt and pepper
    stir the mixture.
    eat

This is how some of my friends eat it.
I tried it and gagged. Not for me.

  • Sambal! Just to add the spicy element to my meal

  • Pork floss or crispy pork sheets

  • rice + banana + fish sauce = the best quick fix you can get ;)

  • Something from my childhood.
Butter, light soy, dark soy and white pepper.
Sometimes, I squeeze in some ketchup to that mix.

  • From time to time we make lazy sushi.

start with short grain rice and season it with rice vinegar, sugar & salt.

Then with that we use https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/419941/cer… to make super lazy bite size sushi.

    Another few combos I love:

  • Fermented tofu or Furikake.

  • mix in a little sushi vinegar, slice an avocado on top, smoked salmon, drizzle soy sauce.

    alt: tin salmon works too.
    tin tuna, if you must.
