Not quite as good a price as the previous deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/619617), but enough for me to pull the trigger on the 880DB, roughly the same price as the February deal.

R1280DBs at the typical sale point.

Both of these are marked as limited time deals, but will hopefully last longer than three hours!

  • Never use Edifier are they just like PC speaker or comparable with hifi speaker?

    • Everyone has pretty positive reviews. Can use them as pc speakers, but would be fine in a home theatre too

    • I have an Edifier Luna Eclipse and they are very good, especially considering the price

    • From the various reviews I've seen, I'm figuring they are at the high end of PC audio, lower end of hifi. But hopefully will be more than acceptable for the cases we are considering: improving TV audio - probably better quality than a low end sound bar (but unfortunately no ARC), better than average PC audio, and home gym system.

  • I currently have these on my PC setup

I don't really understand the "Specs" of speakers, but would any of the edifiers be any sort of an upgrade? Or just stick with the Fluid's

    • The Fluid unit in that link is a 'studio monitor'; designed for an accurate/neutral sound primarily to benefit audio production. I think most "typical" people massively prefer the sound of Hi-Fi speakers so the Edifiers would be better for that if nothing else.

  • FYI R1280dbs have been as low as $150 previously. Picked those up in the last deal. Great speakers, especially when paired with a Subwoofer.

    • I've purchased new pairs for $79 before, just need to be patient for the deals to roll around.
Great little speakers for PC or TV for small or mid sized rooms.

I think you may be referring to r1280db, not the r1280db(s). The DBS model is an updated model with Subwoofer out port.

My R1280dbs just got delivered today and I'm so happy with the sound quality (using them with a record player and bluetooth music streaming so far). Definitely better than I thought they'd be. Also came with a free pair of wireless earbuds through the amazon deal

Similar experience when I got mine! Add a good subwoofer and they'll transport you to a new level of appreciation, again.

  • This is a bit of a long shot, but it's worth a try.

I have come into a possession of a pair of a pair of Krix equinox Mk 1 or 2 (reasonably old) bookshelf speakers, but with no amp or anything to drive them at the moment. Would I be better served buying these or buying an interface (probably Audient Evo 4) to power the Krixes? The interface is obviously a little cheaper but can also function as a DAC, and with the amount of instruments I have its probably a good contingency. Thoughts?

Thanks in advanced, I know this is a bit of a long shot, if anyone can point me to a more suitable forum to ask these questions I would appreciate it.

    • Try asking the whirlpool forums audio section.

    • For my gaming setup I've got the smaller Krix Atomix, running from an SMSL AD18 amp - I'd expect your Equinox will be at least as good as the Edifier's running from a similar small amp, possibly even better (assuming they're in good condition & don't need the woofer surrounds replacing/etc).

That Audient thing looks like it's for powered speakers, so you'd still need an amp for the Krixes.

I'm moving my Atomix to the HT for more surround, so looking at getting some R1280DB(s).
