Pepsi Vs Coke, Which Do You Prefer?

Which soft drink do you prefer drinking?

Poll seems hard to change, please think of Coke Zero as Coke No Sugar as the Zero is unattainable (Credits Loulou1)

Taste is different depending on if you drink the canned or bottled version. Glass bottles contain real cane sugar and taste the best.

Coke is a staple, everything else comes and goes. Can't stand Pepsi though.

    • +2

It's strange how people can hate one, despite it being so similar to the other. It's like hating green apples whilst liking red apples. They aren't very different…

      • +11

How? Coca Cola and Pepsi taste completely different. Likewise red (sweeter) and green (tarter) apples.

Same for Mirinda and Fanta, Sprite and 7up etc…

        • Yep, I prefer sunkist over fanta too….

      • +2

It's like hating green apples whilst liking red apples

This might blow your mind - but what if I told you it's even possible to hate one kind of red apple, and liking other red apples?

Apples can have wildly different textures and tastes. Crisp, mealy, sweet, tart…

Although personally, I find Pepsi and Coke interchangeable. I can definitely tell the difference and prefer Pepsi Max, but I won't care if I ask for one and get the other.

      • I really enjoy pink lady and jazz apples, somewhat modi and Granny Smith but am not interested at all in red delicious, gala and some others. Since we’re in apple season maybe someone should do a poll. And whilst we’re there I like imperial mandarins but not afrourer.

      • Personally I think granny smith's and royal gala's are pretty damn different.

But I agree Pepsi and Coke taste like cola. slightly different but not huge.

      • Its because you/I don't like Coke Zero/Diet or Pepsi the taste becomes very distinguishable as you never/rarely drink it.

Because of this, I feel Coke zero and diet are more similar to Pepsi than Coke.

The same can be said with water, lot of people prefer different brands

  • +2

I like Coke classic but don't mind Pepsi. Not a fan of the sugar-free variants

  • +9

How about an option of none of the above - and sugar water destroys your sense of taste.

Basically the extreme sweetness changes your inherent ability to determine other tastes as a relative, I didn't realise how sweet vegetables were until i stopped drinking that crap.
You also lose the ability to taste sour and umami flavors as much since the relative taste compared to the extreme sweetness of the drink skews all else.

    • +3

I did keto diet once, everything tasted so sweet for weeks afterwards.

    • +1

I find if I don't drink any soft drink for a while (eg >12 months) coke taste utterly horrible the first time after the break, then slowly becomes tasty after a couple glasses worth. What do you think the cause of this is?

      • -3

"coke taste utterly horrible the first time after the break, …. What do you think the cause of this is?"

WARM, FLAT COKE! Which does taste horrible.
Try an ice cold, freshly opened can instead, and get back to me.

        • -1

Is that a joke about leaving it out for 12 months??
It's odd that two people used their negs om you either way..

  • +1

Where is the Jack and Coke option?

  • +4

    Definitely coke!
I wouldn’t drink Pepsi if my life depended on it!!!
    It’s eww!!!

  • Cherry coke & Solo. But not together.

    • What happens if you take them together?

      • +1

        You get lemon cherry coke.

        Sounds pretty good actually lol.

  • F & N - ice cream soda is the best, followed by grape. Occasionally see it in some Asian shops.

  • I think younger folks prefer Pepsi

  • Pepsi max for no sugar
    Coke for all the sugar.

    • Pepsi max for no sugar and no enjoyment
Coke for all the sugar and all the enjoyment

  • +5

    I drink water

    • +2

      That's great, FocusRider.

Your potential for a longer, healthier life exceeds all the other respondents with their comments about either 'drink'

      • "Your potential for a longer, healthier life"

With only water to drink, life just SEEMS LONGER!

    • +1

      "I drink water"

So do I - to stay hydrated … BUT with meals or snacks it has to be Coke, low alcohol beer or sparkling wine for me.

Life would be so dull & boring if we only had water with our meals.

  • +2

    Dr Pepper (cane sugar version)

  • LA ice?
Was a fan of AC that Kmart once sold too
    .

  • -3

I perceive Coke as my favourite, but to be honest I've never done a blind taste test to determine if I can actually tell the difference.

Even expert sommeliers are terrible at differentiating wines under experimental conditions, so I suspect a lot of people's preferences are just psychological.

    • +1

"a lot of people's preferences are just psychological"

HUH? You can't differentiate Coke from Pepsi?

      Numb tongue ….?

  • +1

    Schweppes Cola

  • +1

    Coke Life

  • So many poll options missed…

    • -1

Exactly, Sqeeksqeek - those options have such a limited scope.

Where's the smart option, like water?

      • "Where's the smart option, like water?"

Always available on the side if needs be.

But your life must be so dull without some sweet stuff … in moderation of course …

  • +1

    Woollies Diet Cola

How the hell does Coke Vanilla have so many votes.

    • -1

"How the hell does Coke Vanilla have so many votes"

      My thoughts exactly!

    • +1

why wouldn't it? vanilla coke is the best

  • +1

I like coke and Pepsi but will usually side with coke if given the choice. It just has to have real sugar! Non of this aspartamene cancerous garbage, I can control my sugar intake.

    • +1

Ummm… do you realise aspartame is just the methyl ester of a dipeptide of aspartic acid and phenylalanine - 2 naturally occurring amino acids.

Literally every protein you eat from any source contains both of these amino acids.

It's metabolism is entirely unremarkable and unsurprisingly for a dipeptide, doesn't even make it into the bloodstream whole ie it is broken down to constituent amino acids in ya guts.

Aspartame is rapidly hydrolyzed in the small intestines. Even with ingestion of very high doses of aspartame (over 200 mg/kg), no aspartame is found in the blood due to the rapid breakdown. Upon ingestion, aspartame breaks down into residual components, including aspartic acid, phenylalanine, methanol, and further breakdown products including formaldehyde and formic acid. Human studies show that formic acid is excreted faster than it is formed after ingestion of aspartame. In some fruit juices, higher concentrations of methanol can be found than the amount produced from aspartame in beverages

      • I meant the cancerous remark a little tongue in cheek. No one fake food additive is solely linked to cancer, but a diet filled with garbage and devoid of actual food would be a top candidate for most health ailments. I've even started grinding flour and making bread. Store brought bread and flours are another fake food and a far cry from the "bread of life". Call me crazy, but leave me with my bread and cane sugar calories! Haha

      • "It's metabolism is entirely unremarkable"

So why does Aspartame imbue a chemical taste to soft drinks, not to mention the horrible aftertaste then?

That is my recollection after I tried one of those diet soft drinks a long time ago.

That experience put off them for good.

  • I prefer classic Coke, though I don't drink pop so much now.

Can't stand Pepsi or the latest fad "Cokes" now available.

I now drink mainly ultra-low alcohol beer and sparkling wine on weekends..

  • +1

Glass bottle Coke! or icy cold can.

  • +1

None of the above.. It's just suger water.

    • "It's just suger water"

You were expecting a health drink? …

    • +3

Look at it from another perspective - Pepsi is about 89% water, so I am basically drinking water to keep mysef hydrated.

    • you are correct. Even people that work for coke describe their job as "selling brown sugary water"

      • "selling brown sugary water"

There's a very good reason for this "brown sugary water" being by far the most popular soft drink worldwide!

No prizes for guessing what it is …

  • Mets Cola

  • -1

    Black & Gold Coke

  • Vanilla Coke. I tried Pepsi Max and found that it just seemed like a mediocre version of normal Pepsi, though I liked that Pepsi with Stevia sweetener that they used to have a couple years ago. I tried Coke No Sugar and it tasted alright, although slightly odd, and I'm pretty sure it upset my stomach.

    • +1

      "I tried …."

Yes, but have you tried classic Coke?

      The pinnacle of soft drinks.

Nothing else comes close … and no horrible aftertaste as with that synthetic crap!

      • yes, i used to drink normal coke a lot. i prefer vanilla coke, although i don't really drink either anymore as i cut down on soft drinks for health reasons. only the occasional treat, once every few weeks or months. i don't get a horrible aftertaste with vanilla coke, more like a great vanilla aftertaste

  • Well, I drink 1L of regular Pepsi for lunch everyday, it really helps with digestion and makes you feel less bloated after a big lunch/dinner.

Coke just fills you up, and I think it has been getting more tasteless during the last 10 years.

    • +1

"I drink 1L of regular Pepsi for lunch everyday … after a big lunch/dinner."

      How much do you weigh?

      Bet it's a lot ….

      • Around 82kg, just weighted myself, and my BMI is is in the "Healthy" range. Though I am starting to collect some belly fat, even though my weight has dropped 3kg in the last 16 months or something.

    • That would be around 30 teaspoons of sugar in a 1litre Pepsi or Coke. Even more if you like Mountain Dew

  • How many adults drink soft drinks regularly?

    • +1

How many adults drink soft drinks regularly?

Many. I wish my GF was here to tell you the exact %

  • Voted Coke Zero since there wasn't an option for Sprite Zero

  • Don't drink it much, but to me best option would be Diet coke vanilla (not Coke Zero). Better balance of sweetness and vanilla taste.

  • -5

There's is no difference in taste. Anyone claim there's a huge difference in terms of taste consider trying a blind taste test to see if you can consistently tell which one is Pepsi/coke.

    • It's all in the fizz

    • +1

"There's is no difference in taste."

Pepsi has a MUCH SWEETER (excessively sweet and unpleasant) taste.

      • -1

Lol how much sweeter? Both of them are excessively sweet to my taste. Just try a blindfold taste test, they are more similar than you'd think. 9/10 times you can't tell

        • "9/10 times you can't tell"

          Yeah right.
Drinking from an ice-cold, freshly opened can of Coke is a highly pleasant experience for me, BUT drinking a can of Pepsi feels more like getting a dose sugar without any pleasant side effects.

I think I can tell the difference …

        • +1

"Just try a blindfold taste test, they are more similar than you'd think. 9/10 times you can't tell"

All I can say is … Don't give up your day job to be a wine taster …

          • -1

@Gekov: I prefer classic coke as well.

But truth is they don't taste different at all if you didn't see the packaging.

Not related, but you also won't be able to tell any taste difference between classic coke and sprite with your eyes covered and nose blocked

            • @BrotherSharp: "with your eyes covered and nose blocked"

HMMM … that's probably because taste is 90% smell.

Not sure that having eyes blocked would make much difference to the taste.

          • @Gekov:

All I can say is … Don't give up your day job to be a wine taster …

They've already given up the job to appear in that Coke Zero commercial where those movie goers couldn't apparently tell the difference between normal and Zero.

    • +4

Lol, they taste nothing alike. You would have to have zero taste buds to think they taste the same. That's like saying sarsaparilla and coke taste the same - no they don't.

You have to be a smoker if you can't taste the difference.

      • Lol just cover the labels and try it. Before this I thought they taste nothing alike as well. Your taste buds are biased because of your eyes.
I still prefer coke but just saying they are more similar than you think.

        • +1

You must have no taste whatsoever if you think coke and Pepsi taste the same. Seriously, go see a doctor.

          • @lunchbox99: Yeah alright you probably have the best taste buds congrats :)
Funny how you just start making assumption someone's a smoker and tell people to go see a doctor because a **** soft drink preference and something you haven't tried yourself. Seriously, you need to go see many doctors

            • +3

@BrotherSharp: I can taste the difference between coke and Pepsi like any normal human. The fact that you can't is genuinely hilarious.

Other things I can taste the difference between:

              • tea and coffee
              • water and not-water
              • faeces and chocolate pudding
              • butter and margarine
              • Big Mac and Whopper
              • salt and pepper
              • Diet Coke and pepsi max

              BAM!!

              • @lunchbox99: Lol ok you've tasted faeces. upvoted with respect. I don't think any normal human's taste buds can compete with that. I'll show myself out.

      • +1

"You have to be a smoker"

        AHA!
        That's it!

@BrotherSharp and his friends must be smokers!
That would explain a lot about their apparent inability to distinguish tastes.

        • +1

I was once at a restaurant with a smoker who said his fish tasted different. We go - dude, you ordered chicken. He couldn't tell the difference. Mind blown.

  • Pepsi Max, and then Vanilla Coke for me.

  • Pepsi Max of all. But it's the only Pepsi variant i like. If that's not an option it's classic coke.

  • Pepsi Max or Diet (Sugar free) Dr Pepper but that's hard to find in decent quantities.
I refuse to support Coke over their "Try to be less white" training for staff, sure it wasn't in Australia but that sort of toxic crap filters down eventually.
They're a beverage maker, they're not there to think they can fix all the world's ills.

  • +1

Regular coke straight into my veins please.

  • Depends on the accompanying food/beverage

Some things just don’t seem right with the wrong one. KFC and Coke just doesn’t belong. And cheap Chinese food with Pepsi doesn’t feel right either

  • This poll is flawed. FLAWED I TELLS YA! No Diet Coke????

Also bottled versions of the no sugar varieties cannot contain sugar at all.

    Hmpf!

    • "No Diet Coke????"

      Too much horrible aftertaste.

      • How very dare you!!! Diet Coke is the holy grail of no sugar beverages.

  • +1

    ANOTHER OPTION:

Coke from McDonald’s or subway with ice (from the “tap”.
These taste a bit more diluted (not in a bad way) and somehow oh so refreshing.

    • So many more options should be here. How about a thesis on these???? 😉

    • YEP.
I like the slightly diluted Coke with ice from McDonald's as well.
No trouble drinking a large carton of it.

  • +1

"Glass bottles contain real cane sugar and taste the best."

All coke uses cane sugar in Australia.
