Who Makes Decent PC's Nowadays?

Hi and thanks in advance for your feedback.
My old i5 2600k is slowly dieing after a good decade of use. I've always built my own PC's but now that I'm an old fart of 42 I'd rather someone build my next rig for me.
I have a decent idea as to what I want, small footprint PC that's powerful but not 'for gaming ' (but could handle total war three kingdoms on a 4k monitor at high quality).
I've seen deals on this site week in week out for years but there are always compromises..who out there makes PC's using smaller form cases that put in quality parts but don't rip you off.
I am pretty sure that I want to go amd ryzen 7 something, 32 gb ram, a motherboard that can has enough pcie4 lanes for a good card and ssd. And not an ugly (subjectively) case with lots of lights and fans. The machine should be almost invisible, it's not a feature.
Thanks in advance. Djackal
Cheers

My old i5 2600k is slowly dieing after a good decade of use.

    Sandy Bridge never dies.

I've still got an i7 2600K rig going strong as a second PC. Still runs games like Doom Eternal or Hitman 2 just fine at 1920x1080 with a 4.6Ghz OC and an RX 580 and that's with mostly High settings. Utterly incredible.

I don't think the longevity, value or inter-generational leap in performance of that CPU architecture will ever be repeated again. That was truly the golden era for PCs.

You're not wrong. Still have a 3770k (ivy bridge die-shrink of sandy bridge) which is still running strong 24/7 since 2012/13. Same H100i cooler too.

    • Sandy Bridge never dies.

+1 for this, writing this from an i5-2400/16GB RAM/GTX1060 3GB, this is more than enough for me even to play some games, some Davincii editing, simulations etc.

  • You don't want one for gaming but want one for gaming mmmkay

    • Hence the dilemma.

I think they want it to be capable of gaming, but it not to look like a rainbow led unicorn vomited all over it.

    • It's more that I don't need super high refresh rates e.g. RX 3080 or equiv. to get a competitive advantage in battle against other humans.
The games I'll pay (hopefully) with do with an RX 3060-70 or their AMD equiv….the video card should also help with work when I'm crunching data or processing images.
But I think 32GB of RAM, a quick SSD, and a latest gen Ryzen PC should go.
      Don't get me wrong…I'm looking for a beast of a PC ;)

      • Ryzen PC

what about 10400F ? 10700F ? (or K versions/11th gen counterparts), I think 10400F really great for the price and you don't have to leave blue team ;)

  • PC building hasn't changed. If you built your old PC you can build your new PC.

    • It's more finding the time and the will….I have many a half finished project around the house and fear I'll wait months to get the exact parts I want/need.

If anything, building your own PC has become easier

      • Except for getting GPUs.

        Although that's a temporary issue…right? Right?!

  • Dell. Uni's, government, health etc all use them because they are pretty well built, fair priced, and have unbeatable support. If you want something to last, then I strongly recommend considering them. You also have the option of extending the warranty (before it expires), at a later date. I have a 7040 Optiplex thing and I had a board fail. Was replaced onsite 2 days later in rural NSW. I also extended my warranty from 3 years to 5 years on-site (NBD) and it cost $99.

They are also decent with their returns. Buy it, don't like it, ask for a label and return it

  • Unless you see something very nice from a prebuild, in most cases it is better to go custom build. Since you want the enclosure/PC to be compact and all, have you explored the world of custom ITX cases? If you're up to it, you can build some of the most elegant (and mature) builds with custom water loop and all.

If you can't be bothered though then cut-throat is the name of the game. Corsair One?
