How to Save on New Kitchen Appliances?

G'day

So new kitchen coming up.

Aside from gift cards, cashbacks what stores do I have most chance of haggling for a discount when buying a double fridge, 90 cm induction cooktop, 90cm oven and 90 cm rangehood together.

I don't really use dishwashers

  • Your location may help.

    • Ryde ish Sydney

  • Good guys, NH, etc…

How brands like Miele there is no haggling.

  • There was a huge thread on whirlpool, where people bought products from Europe. But when I did my kitchen, basically went to Appliances Online and bought them all. I recently found out that E&S have a factory outlet in Melbourne too

    I don't really use dishwashers

That was me in 2005. These days you will take the dishwasher from my cold, dead hands.

Literally the first thing I purchased when I bought a place.

Lol. Agree. Can’t imagine having kids and not having one. After the second kid, EVERYTHING goes in the dishwasher now.

      • Haha. I have twins so .. so far I'm ok without one

In the new kitchen I'll have some drawers as placeholders for the dishwasher

    • " These days you will take the dishwasher from my cold, dead hands."

      Same here.
I just could not imagine life without the sheer dump & forget convenience of never having to waste my time hand washing the dishes after each meal.

I used to get quite depressed whenever I saw a pile of dirty dishes waiting to be washed by hand after each meal.

The best thing to happen in the kitchen since sliced bread!

      • Where's the cheapest place to buy dishwasher tablets?

I'm concerned about paying more than my $2 ALDI dish detergent

"Where's the cheapest place to buy dishwasher tablets?"

          I buy from Chemist Warehouse.

Finish Classic Tablet 110 Pack for $12.99.

          That's 11.8c per tablet.

          Does anyone know cheaper?

And you don't have top buy a gazillion tablets to get this price!

@Gekov: Wow who would have thought chemist warehouse‽

  • https://homeclearance.com.au/, I've bought from them a few times and you get over the scratches etc pretty quickly

  • We recently renovated our whole kitchen and got all new appliances. Went to winning appliances showroom in Northmead to have a look at what we liked. I then found the best price on each item elsewhere (appliances Online, Bing Lee, Harvey Norman etc.) and got them to match it, then asked them to do an even better deal on the whole lot together, which they did.

Service was great, free delivery (will hold onto it as long as you need), no complaints.

      Winning! :)
      Good idea thanks

Winning appliances = appliances online FYI

        • :O
          I did not know

Don’t buy smeg. All style, no substance.

    • We have had Smeg for over 20 years, no problems at all

  • Make an offer on eBay.

I made an offer on eBay, the offer was accepted, and I obtained a food processor that was selling for up to $149 for $100 with free delivery.
It was a Ninja model BN650.

[edit] Actually, I had another look and some are selling for over $200!!

  • I know that they're not considered "cool" any more, nor have they been for a long time, but I negotiated a really good package deal at HN Auburn when we re-did our kitchen. Got a double F&P dishdrawer, LG pyro oven, LG convection microwave, rangehood and other stuff all at the same time. Just haggled a bit with the sales guy and picked items that were currently on promo and didn't require a huge wait time so that made it easy for them to provide a decent discount.

Being flexible helps - the sales people will be able to give you better deals if you are flexible with the make/model within reason. So do your research and have a range of say 3 different makes/models for each category of appliance that you're buying.

Personally, I would probably avoid most European "trendy" brands as they attract a price premium for not a lot of benefit in my opinion.

    • Good idea with the flexibility thing. Cheers

  • EuroMaid - cheap good service and reliable for Kitchen oven, gas stove and dishwasher for Micro Panasonic or LG and Washing machine LG this will keep your budget down and good to last 8 to 10 years and replace if they get broken down as cost to replace will be cheaper then getting it repaired.

HN and Appliance online sell this brand.

if you go with big brand like Meile etc you will burn more then 4 times the budget and you will hate to replace and get it repaired for the price of new one you can spend on above brands. and even this brand get old with time and continue to last for 12 to 15 years.

    choice is yours.

    • I see. So buy something "cheap enough" that its not worth repairing, vs one that I paid so much that I have to repair it.

      • yes that correct, i am saying with my experience. my house came with Ariston Italian top brand home appliance and within 5 years i have replaced all of them as they were expensive to repair then to replace with EuroMaid and LG with full 3 to 5 years warranty depend upon items and just little marginal then repairing old items with 3 months warranty on repairs.

  • Wait for the sales… then bargain with retailer

    • Good idea. EOFY is around the corner.

      • Not at this time when supplies are in short supply and no inventory for EOFY. I do know many items are now on back orders for 3-4 months for delivery, good luck if you can get your supplies you desire immediately rather then waiting.
