Out at the beach in Freycinet and thought having a camera back at home to check on things would be good idea. So now Imou are having a repeat of this deal on their LOOC outdoor camera.

The main features of this camera is that it has PIR Detection, Motion Tracking, Built-in Spotlight and a Security Siren that can go up to 110dB.

Other features include H.265 1080p video, 2MP Sensor, Night Vision, IP65 rated for outdoor use, two-way audio, 2.4GHz Wifi, NVR/Cloud/MicroSD storage, RTSP/ONVIF and an app for iOS, Android and PC. • Out at the beach in Freycinet

    Least humble, humble brag ever?

    • +2

Well I could have said I'm taking the boat around to wineglass bay tomorrow morning for some fishing! But the better spots are less beautiful 😉

  • Beautiful view! Enjoy your weekend.!

  • I wonder if it’s possible to power this via USB? Would be nice to install inside my caravan for when I am out….

    • Yes the cable it uses is USB and the power requirement is only 5V/2A.

  • Excellent camera with a much better app than the usual Chinese cameras.
Pair with a SD card and motion detection is excellent

  • FREE distribution of your email, spam style to 100's

  • Thanks OP, got one to test outside of garage.

  • Looks interesting but nothing on the ebay listing or the imou website say anything about RTSP/ONVIF support?

    • Thanks

  • FYIs - Appears to be same as this Dahua camera https://us.dahuasecurity.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/C26E…

    • That's correct.

  • Looks like it doesn't come with any cloud storage. Is that right?

    • Correct they offer a trial.
Just add a micro SD and you can record to it 24/7.

When you set up motion alerts it displays back 30 seconds from the motion.

      • Mmmyeah, the problem with only recording to an SD card is that if the baddy nicks your camera, he also nicks the only evidence that could have been used to pin him for it—and pin him for all the other stuff he nicked—which kinda' defeats the entire purpose of having a camera.

        • Good point.
You can link it via rtsp to an NVR on your network as well.

I use Shinobi as an NVR and viewer.
In the past I was using ffmpeg to dump the stream to disk and a PHP file as a scheduled task to check disk space and delete oldest files when it reaches less than 10gb

          • @opelcalibra: I hope all that is working well for you. Personally I'd rather avoid all those shenanigans and just buy one of the many cams that comes with some free cloud storage.

            • @GnarlyKnuckles: and risk letting others look at your video footage for free too?

              https://9now.nine.com.au/a-current-affair/home-security-warn…

              • @cezasu: The view of my driveway and street? Sure anyone who wants to can come and look at that any time they like with the 'naked eye' anyway.

Regardless of that, as long as you set the cam up properly/do not retain the 'generic'/factory-set password, others cannot hack into your cam.

                • @GnarlyKnuckles: These cameras use the security code printed on the camera as the password, so security is 1 step better than the usual generic ones that all use the same password.
At least in this case every camera has a different password for the stream.

                • @GnarlyKnuckles: they don't have to hack into your cam.. they can just hack the free cloud server..

                  • @cezasu: Good point, but I guess that's a risk that everyone takes any time they use a cloud server to store anything at all. Notably, if you're solely relying on SD card/onboard storage and some gimp knocks off your camera, as well as having the actual camera they then have all the footage contained on that SD card—just as if they'd 'hacked the cloud'—the difference is that you don't have access to that footage any longer.

  • Anyone know what the power cable length is (it looks like hard wired into the camera) as well as the size of the USB connector (ie what size hole is required to feed the cable through)?

These are ridiculously cheap now. Going to get another 2 or 3 of them, great items.

  • Ok so my camera arrived and set up for RTSP. In VLC the stream has minor lag (not too much, can live with that) but the picture tends to ghost and break up a bit on movement. (The app's livestream works ok though but I don't want to be using their servers).

However if I access the stream using some camera software (I tried tinycam on android for example) the picture doesn't ghost but the lag is horrendous (somewhere around 8s). The same on motioneye running on a pi. Any tips? Otherwise this will sadly be going into the drawer.

    • This usually happens if the WiFi throughout is not fast enough. I run my cameras on a seperate WiFi router to my main internet not only for best stream but to also block servers etc.

Try the vxg app on iOS or Android over rtsp.

Also check firmware is up to date.

Thanks - I suspected that might be the case. Unfortunately there is no way to reduce the resolution of the stream other than setting subtype =1 which lowers it all the way down to 640x480 which defeats the purpose.

If it can't be solved I will probably end up benching it or give it to one of my rellies who isn't Dahua phobic as I would never use their cloud service. My RTSP Wyze cams actually perform better than these.

        • Thanks for the info mate, was looking for something with a good rtsp stream, so I'll look elsewhere.

I've found the ezviz c3n had a pretty good quality stream if you're looking for something. $75 on Amazon right now

          • @Eatoff: Thanks for the recommendation - do you have one streaming rtsp ok? I'm a bit hesitant to spend on more of these types of cameras without them being explicitly supported in tinycam.

I think the problem with many of these cheap cams appears to be that RTSP is an afterthought tack on (they really want you to use their cloud services and pay $$). The LOOC for example has no RTSP settings at all to optimise the stream quality.

@gadget: I did have one for a while, streaming to blueiris. I got rid of it to go all in on eufy… But I'm regretting because the eufy outdoor cams are battery only and the "spotlight" is worse than my phone light. And now with eufys recent security indiscretion I'm looking to use whatever camera is most appropriate for locations and then integrate via blueiris.

The ezviz had some drop outs when I first purchased, but it was fixed with a firmware update. Uses h.265 video too, so good compression. I'm looking at picking one up again.

              • @Eatoff: Cool thanks!

                • @gadget: I will add that the ezviz does have person detection, which this appears not to have.

                  • @Eatoff: Did you get much lag/delay getting it into blue iris? Upon further testing of the camera it had about 4-5s delay into VLC (I put it in another location about the same distance way from the access point) and the picture was much better, guess the internal antenna's a bit sensitive to position) and to my motioneye setup a whopping 30s, which makes it useless for real time viewing.

                    • @gadget: BlueIris is pretty good for lag, but it needs a decent-ish PC to run it depending on how many cameras. Lag on mine to the mobile app is probably under 1 second. I found that tinycam (a phone app, not bad for testing) is under a second too for the eufy cameras i have been using.

My blueiris setup is currently on a lenovo tiny.

                      • @Eatoff: yeh gotta love those lenovo m93p's - cheap and decent performance if you don't need 4k video. I'll download a trial of BI to check it out.

@gadget: Yeah, M700 here, goes well. Definitely worth giving the trial a go. Check out the hook up on YouTube. He has a great how to to get going with deepstack AI.
