Suggest a Smart TV for My Grandparents!

Hi,
The grandparents have moved and are looking to replace an old tv.

They have no fixed budget
They would like one sized around 40-50inches.
They need good sound, and would love if it
had good smart tv integration. (Like android tv)

However, they are open to getting a Chromecast with Google tv and a sound bar if needed if it is better to go that way.

Can't wait to hear your suggestions.
I haven't looked at tvs in years so don't have a clue!

If OP can't put in the basic research, what should they expect?

Fair enough. OP's parents won't know the difference between OLED and LED so may as well grab a FFALCON 55" and a sound bar from JB and call it a day tbh.

@SnowDragon: Another suggestion is to get a cheaper series/model from the same brand you have at home.

I've got an LG B9 and I got my Mum an LG UN7300PTC which has come in handy when troubleshooting any problems she has because the OS menus are effectively identical.

          • @SnowDragon: Yeah I was wondering whether to take thag route or maybe viano/al
            Kai/aldi. Cheers mate

    • So pretty! But it's not even OzValue let alone Ozbargain.

Honestly they're probably better off with a reasonable Hisense or similar and just get a Chromecast with Google TV. That's what I've got, and once you set up the Chromecast remote it'll turn the TV off and on and adjust volume. But I also don't watch terrestrial TV (at all)

    • Thanks for the suggestion! Much appreciated.
Can you control regular Channels/volume from the Chromecast with Google tv too?

      • I don’t think so. I don’t even have a functional antenna at my house lol

I'm looking for a 40" TV too, can't go larger for the side it needs to fit in.

40" TVs seemed to a value sweet spot some years ago, but now I'm finding they are rarer these days, not good value compared to 43" or larger TVs, and don't seem to be on sale at all, which is holding me back.

      50 is the new 40

      • So it seems! And not much of a price difference always either.
