  • Hitachi is basically a brand like Soniq/AWA/Sanyo these days but I think the price is still good.

    • They used to make great plasmas, then they exited the Australian market. Are they back, or are they just branding other TVs?

    • +1

I think Sanyo is a very good example. They used to make hi-end TVs/HiFis etc but then some Chinese company bought their consumer electronics section and here we are. Just dont compare this one to Sony/Samsung/Toshiba/Low Grade(LG :p).

The price is very good and arouses me. Now where's my credit card?

    • -1

maybe it'd lodged in your arousal zone.

  • I like how both posts start off with saying its $50 cheaper than a previous post. I wonder when the next one will be :)

Buyer BEWARE, this is NOT a 100 Hertz LCD TV as mentioned on Big W's website. I looked into the product's manual, nothing about it being 100Hertz, have a look yourself:

    http://www.tempoaustralia.com.au/hitachi/manuals/L42EC05AU%2…

  • Is it page 36 50\60Hz your talking about or

Page 37 says Input signal over 100MHZ is that what your looking for 2true?

    • +1

he's talking about screen refresh rate, not mains supply, personally i think some people put too much faith in refresh rates, believing something like "a 600hz tv is going to have 3X better picture quality than a 200hz" not true, match the screen to what you watch, e.g i like blu ray movies, and a lot are 24p, so for me a 24hz tv mode is more important than 600hz

    Maybe Hitachi is Goldstar reborn?

  • Does 178 degree viewing angle mean it's an IPS display like the Panasonics?

  • Still tossing up between this and the 42" 100 Hz AWA that I can pick up and save the delivery charge on.

    Decisions decisions…

    • +1

It would be a pretty easy decision for me, the AWA is LED backlit…I haven't seen any other set for this price that is! That & nil delivery charge would tip the scales for me! :)

      • I guess you're right. Better head down to my local store now then, it looks like stocks been running out at stores all around me.

Reviews no good for AWA….so what did you go for?

    • What reviews? The only one on BigW is glowing! :o

  • +1

Smart choice Tempo made buying the rights to use the name Hitachi. 80-90% of consumers would only remember hitachi as a quality brand 5-6 years ago… Just like I found out(on here) that goddfreys bought the name 'Hoover' and just import their own under the name..

  • +3

Yes, 'Hitachi' TVs in Australia are a rebranded Tempo Australia product! http://www.tempoaustralia.com.au/

Tempo is said to be under investigation by the ACCC over its use of the Hitachi name…
"One Company set to be scrutinised is Tempo Australia, whose web site lists several major International brands including Hitachi TV's" http://www.smarthouse.com.au/TVs_And_Large_Display/Industry/…

Have waited 4 months for Tempo to fix a fault in my PVR! But Tempo… Don't answer emails. Don't ring back as promised & I was given 'priority' treatment according to them. I would never buy any Tempo rebadged gear again. Like others on Whirlpool Forums have said - there is no support from Tempo.

  • Isn't this brand Japanese??? 

    • +2

The original Brand is Japanese, but the Australian trademark isn't!
That is why the use of old trademarks bought by another company is likely to mislead.

  • How would this TV go playing Bluray? Any good vs top end TVs? As in is there a massive difference?

  • Mine arrived yesterday (Although the Messengerpost parcel tracking website says it's still in Port Melbourne) and it works as described.

I haven't had time to test 1080p via HDMI or recording with the PVR yet but for the price I'm happy enough.
