Complete opposite in colour tone , I find the srpe71 better buy with stainless steel bracelet

    • I agree, but it is slightly thicker.

    • Cant say i'm fond of the stucco with the gothic font on the bezel.

      • Completely opposite in colour tone and general vibe I think - the SRPE71 feels more like a blingy watch (though less blingy than the rose gold version (SRPE72).

  • Is it easy enough to replace the Hardlex glass myself? Or no?

    • What's the purpose of replacing it?

      • Replace it with Sapphire I assume

        • I get that, and i'm aware of the the differences between the two. I'm just wondering why.

I am sure I'd end up getting it scratched, and it isn't known for being the most resistant.
I don't want to fork out huge money on servicing a cheap watch. If I could do it myself, it'd be worthwhile.
If its too hard, I'd rather spend a bit extra for sapphire because I know it can withstand my kind of use.

Interesting… I think a different watch would be better after costs, time and tool acquisition.

I planned on a crystal swap for a project but never got around to it. Here's a guide. You'd need to pick up some tools (opener, press, compressed air etc) and the sapphire crystal.

If you did intend to swap it and don't have the equipment, it could be worth checking how much a watchmaker would charge. I'm also not sure how well that PVD coating would hold up if the watch is going to have a tough life.

@ihfree: Thanks for this info, very helpful!
Just looking at this guide has warded me off it already lol.

I already have a Seiko with sapphire and wear it 24/7, love it.
Just waiting for an ozbargain priced dive watch with sapphire thats relatively small and thin like this Seiko 5.

  • damn, just size up a bit and I'll get it.

  • but i've already spent so much on watches the past couple of months…….
