Who Do SMB's Purchase Tech and PCs From?

Hi,
I'm now managing IT for a SMB (60-120 PCs…seasonal work). In the past it seems they purchased alot of devices and tech from an old MSP.
I used to manage an MSP so I understand the margins added; but I can no longer purchase from traditional Distributors (Dicker, IngramMicro, Sektor etc).

The sort of kit I'd commonly be purchasing are:

  • Lenovo Thinkpad laptops or desktops
  • Dell/Samsung monitors
  • Phones (iPhones/Samsungs)
  • Jabra Headsets
  • Various standing desks, Mounts
  • HP Desktops or Proliant Servers
  • CISCO Switches

Are there any reseller you use and love?
Do you go to retailers like CentreCom or Scorptec?
Do you go to Dell or Lenovo direct for PCs?

Thanks for the advice.

I only look after 20 or so plus a file server and firewall but we just get machines/laptops from dell now. Preferably with 20% off sale and I'll try for cash rewards as a little bonus. I'm not exclusively in an IT role.

    • If you talk to the dell small business sales reps they can generally beat any prices on the website.

      • Yea I've got one of them. Good for when you need a new blade server.

Don't go resellers, go direct. Warranty can be a hassle and it most likely costs more from resellers.

    • Thanks. That would cover big items (PCs, Servers, Monitors). What do you do for the little stuff (headsets, USB Flash drives etc)?

      • Officeworks for the small stuff is good enough

Ask Mwave or scorptec or Pccasegear or even Lenovo for commercial discounts.

  • Used to work with a school many years ago and usually the cheapest way to get bulk discounts on laptops, desktops, monitors and input devices is to just ring up the OEMs like Dell or Lenovo and ask for deals.

  • At your size I would go direct. MSPs only seem to make sense to large multinationals who don't want the hassle.
