It's all about the frequency (channel) not the model number.
Thought so, not a great price anyway really.
UH35 doesnt have the kidz mode. If you want your kids to talk to each other with the knowledge that others cant chime in (unless they have the KIDZ mode as well), then it is much better unit. The price is actually really good.
I was waiting for them to come down to this price to get a pack for our Cub Scouts to use
@Madmartigan611: I read the description of kids mode on the uniden website but I still not understand what it does. Do you mind to explain what exactly. Is this kids mode?
The uh35 is nearly half the price and only diff I can see is the kids mode.
@humbala: It’s basically just a private channel, it means that only the radios with that feature can listen or broadcast when it’s enabled on that channel. It’s not the same as an encrypted one as anyone with these radios can listen on but presumably fewer people should have these
@peter05: Interesting, so say other people on the same channel but not have the same kid zone feature enabled cannot hear you?
@peter05: note that from technical data it appears your broadcasts are still public but incoming responses are filtered, so only a one way filter not both ways
@peter05: Think of KZ as a subchannel.
It actually sends a sub audible tone, hence there is a slight delay in using it.
If you're not on that subchannel (KZ is 10 by default but there are 38 to choose from) you cannot participate - no one will hear you.
If you want privacy, ie no one can hear you, the 5w models from GME and Uniden have a scrambler function which uses simple voice inversion. Not perfect but that is the only allowable type of privacy allowed on the UHF CB class licence.
@humbala: Kidzone (or CTCSS 10) is like a incoming filter, anyone with a UHF CB will be able to hear someone using a radio with Kidzone on but if they talk back your radio will not pick it up (unless they set their radio to the same CTCSS tone)
I would be worth doing a few test transmissions and listening without kidzone on beforehand on the channel you want to use to make sure no one is using that channel in your area already.

@lexis999: interesting, i'll correct my comment above as my understanding was incorrect. if it's just an incoming filter is a fair bit less useful!
@peter05: while it doesn't block outgoing, it atleast prevents the kids from hearing all the swearing etc
Duplicate post
No the other post was the UH35 which is lower tier unit.
It’s likely peter05 is referring to their own comment?
haha, yes i was trying to reply and fat fingered the new thread instead so i deleted my own comments. I can see how my edited comment was ambiguous though :D
@peter05: It wasn’t that ambiguous. There were a few indicators that suggested that’s what happened. Also, typing delete will delete unwanted comments.
Don't buy. Terrible item. Couldn't have all remotes on the one channel and battery literally died on all units within 15 mins after a full charge. Waste of time and very disappointing
That has not been my experience. Got the 3 pack for Christmas and the kids love them.
I assume these work with the UH35 model no problems?
