For the afternoon some more freebies, this time some pretty intellectual and probably more complex to read stuff.
Nietzsche, Marx, Kant, and Chesterton should keep your little grey cells busy over the weekend.
Of course, if you can, read Marx, Kant, and Nietzsche in German to up the intellectual challenge even further. ;-)

Have you read any of them?

      • apparently no need to read any of them, he sees RED, he thinks BAD.

          Hundred million deaths and counting…

@Jace81: Just out of curiosity, where is this number from? Any serious source?

        • Somewhat concerning is the large number of RED supporters considering how BAD it actually was.

Oh yeah definitely, speaking about the working class struggle against the ruling class is so evil! F**k poor/middle class people am I right?

Might as well read it … we might soon be ruled by one!

    • You're already living in a tweaked version of capitalist communism if you haven't known, thought about it in depth :)

      • +12

        "capitalism communism"

No. You mean late stage capitalism - pretty much predicted by Marx in Capital.. Ultimately becomes as authoritarian as the tankie commie experiments from last century.

        • Well then if Marx “Predicted it”…

  • +1

Is the communist manifesto the real deal or censored and “corrected” one?

    • +2

Most probably all of these books are as you say "corrected" versions. critical thinking is forbiden, we do the thinking for you and you just swallow :)

    • "Original Authoritative Edition". Just, most of the indoctrinated, if they ever read progressive books, take it with subjective biased closed mind.
The key point is that like contradictions of Feudalism that triggered the (Italian) Renaissance (all the good things we enjoy now), contradictions of Capitalism create the next stage environment.
We can postpone progress, but cannot stop it. Nature's rules always support change. The later, the more pain, like financial crises (just started for the next decade), worsening pandemics, climate unpredictable change, autoimmune & psychosomatic diseases, etc.
Life was supposed to be easier with better tools. We sacrificed (lost our free) TIME (except the unemployed, sometimes).
      Happy reading comrade ;)

I'm still waiting for a deal on, "On the Jewish Question"

  • +2

Beyond Good and Evil + The Communist Manifesto is a great edge lord starter pack.

consider doing yourself a favour and wait for them to give away some Dostoyevsky instead.

  • +2

Kant's writing is notoriously dense and difficult. Good luck to anyone who attempts that.

Nietzsche is always fun. May want to start with Thus Spoke Zarathustra though.

  • +2

I don't think this is much of a bargain considering most of these are out of copyright and always freely available from Gutenberg and the like, probably including better editions.

Maybe there's something to be said for encouraging ozb to read philosophy though. Not sure I'd recommend Kant to those new to philosophy, I tried to read Pure Reason a few years ago and didn't get very far.

    • +5

Yeah, but getting The Communist Manifesto from a behemoth of a company largely owned by the world's richest person and treating it's employees like robots is pretty mind-blowing in its own way, so maybe that's the bargain.

    • That's the problem. Many books on PG have little to no formatting making them very hard to read. On Amazon the editions often have formatting etc.

  • +1

I'm sure if you go to China they would give you these books for free (with added Chinese characteristics), plus an anal swab and a Sinovac jab lol.

    • +1

yes. and it wouldnt be optional

  • How do I get this? The AU links say I need to be in the UK and the US links require a US account. AU store shows it isn't free….? Thanks.

    • +1

Still free for me on AU. You need to log on to the site your account is registered at e.g. if your account is AU log on to amazon.com.au. If you have a US account log on to amazon.com. Sounds like you may have a UK account? You can see and change your account location in the settings (Accounts & Lists - Your Account - Content & Devices - Preferences tab - Country & Regions Settings).
