  • Is it really that quiet? I see it claims to use some insulation mats for noise damping. But don't other case makers have the same feature?

    • +2

Its just a brand name. But their fans are pretty quiet. I have one of these cases and the loudest thing in my system is my cpu cooler, but i can barely hear it with the non mesh top cover.

      • I get it now. Thanks sylon

    • I have the Pure Base 500DX and its got sound dampening insulation on the cable side panel. If you have be quiet fans its keeps the noise low, since it doesn't have a mesh front, this case wil be even quieter.

      • Having sound dampening insulation in your case defeats the purpose these days, ideally you want a case that has excellent airflow, and then you get ultra quiet fans which means you get optimum cooling as well as whisper quiet noise.

There has been alot of tests done on youtube tech channels, and the insulation can add as much as 10-20 degrees to your cpu temp since its not conducive to good airflow. Obviously this is mostly in air-cooled cases, and to a much lesser extent water cooling.

        • What you said is exactly how i've configured my setup. the 500DX is a mesh case and comes with 3 140mm fans that are very silent.

    • They started in fans and they were the best (arguably up there still) in terms of noise vs performance and just overall noise

    • I previously had a Silent Base 800 and while the newer models might be a little better, the main problem is as follows:

Acoustic sealing/damping = bad airflow = fans having to work harder to keep temps under control = more noise.

I now have a Lian Li Lancool II Mesh which adopts exactly the opposite approach: full mesh front and top for maximum airflow, which allows slower fan speeds to obtain the same thermal performance. I haven't done scientific testing but Gamer's Nexus has, and you'll find that the 'noise normalised thermals' for full mesh cases are usually better than for closed/silent cases: https://www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/3602-lian-li-lancool-i….

Subjectively I'd say my Silent Base was a bit quieter at idle but with higher idle temps, but under load the Silent Base was just as loud as the Lancool II Mesh while also running A LOT hotter (+15 celsius on the CPU). If I wanted my current setup to be quieter under load I could achieve that by allowing the CPU to get hotter, but I don't see any reason to.

  • Just paid $119 three days ago!!!

  • Free shipping doesn't apply as apparently the cases are above 20kg in cubic weight (similar 601 is 28.23kg) … the orders "up to 20kg" isn't scale weight

    • Incase you wanted two haha … or a case over $100

  • Would've been great 6 months ago….

  • How does one actually get free shipping? For example, the Thermaltake Commander C34 is over $100 and less than 20Kg with a net weight of just under 8Kg yet I am still getting charged shipping for my postcode (which is included in the eligible postcodes spreadsheet)
