Yamaha HS8 Active Monitor Speaker (Black) $372 (Single) + Delivery ($0 to Capital Cities) @ Derringers Music

200
Comeback5

Cheapest I've seen these before. Great price. Usually cheapest I've seen is $429. Unreal monitors - but they're chonkybois. No need for a sub with these either IMO. EDIT* just found code Comeback5 for even more off!

Note: The price is for a single speaker, not a pair of speakers.

You can get them cheaper as a pair. I paid $740 for a pair from Store DJ last year. They are very good but also very big!

Nice, haven't seen that - was looking at them for 6 months and paid $800 for a white pair! - EDIT just found a code for this deal bringing a pair to $744

      • what is your code?

  • Great speaker pair.

  • Are these good for a 2 channel stereo? Will they fill the room with sound?

    • +1

They can fill a large room, and for rooms under about 5x4 the bass will be exceptionally powerful. Just keep in mind theyre nearfields so theyre better suited for defined listening distances

      • if youre paying $800 a set for a pair of 120w active 8" speakers then you should be getting some quality

be that as it may… look at the way this thing connects… you have a choice of 1/4 jack or balanced XLR

so unless you have some kind of preamp that supports either of these then this isnt for you

        these are for professionals

i'm betting i'm one of the very few people here who actually has a xlr connected preamp and power amp combo as my daily driver

        • -1

I imagine most people with a dac have an xlr output and a preamp, and it doesnt make sense to get an amp for these speakers.

          • @Jenny Death: i have a pile of dacs on my desk right now, none have xlr

a inexpensive xlr capable dac would be something like the Topping D70 and that's already $600 usd and I dont think there's much cheaper out there? would really love to see anyone who's got a cheaper xlr capable dac slash digital preamp

i'm generally not a fan of active speaker as such since you're stuck with the spk and amp architecture so theres no much possibility to upgrade but then again, I'm not a near field person so…

            • @tonyjzx: Ah, 1/4 mb, but its not like a 1/4 to xlr makes any difference since theyre both balanced

            • @tonyjzx: Why not use a proper audio interface? Something like Behringer UMC404HD at around AUD$240, will give you 4 channels of 24/192kHz with balanced outputs as well as four channels of inputs and headphones out. That particular model is actually quite good in comparison to some of the older crap that Behringer used to produce. It outperforms more expensive devices, such as Scarlett.

              • @peteru: Don't even need to go that far. They work just fine from a quarter inch output, which plenty sub $100 interfaces have.

"i'm betting i'm one of the very few people here who actually has a xlr connected preamp and power amp combo as my daily driver"

Make you feel like a big man?

I'm betting you're probably the only person who feels the need to get on ozbargain to brag about such a thing.

    • They're nearfield monitors, so if you don't know you specifically need nearfield monitors, you're better off with something else (that's probably cheaper).

    • They can fill your boots, 8 inch driver.

These are incredible speakers, but please note these are very neutral, and built for monitoring music recording. If you don't have experience with that or know what that means, it is a good idea to try and listen to these speakers before buying, as they will be different to what you expect.
