Aus Post Delay Coronavirus Outbreak excuse

I am thinking it is no longer excusable for Australia Post to use coronavirus outbreak as an excuse for slow delivery.

It has been over a year since the first lock down, and other delivery vendors have adapted.

Lower your expectation and you'll find AusPost is actually not too bad

      Lower your expectation

      too right :)

Auspost, Telstra - shops that still have legacy govt DNA, they are from the same school.

    • +5

can't get much lower expectations it's lready at rock bottom LOL

      • +5

Haha. then remove any expectation and you'll be surprised that your parcel arrives

  • +4

We still don’t have 5 day a week letter delivery. I wonder what the excuse is.

    • +2

It's always easier to make system changes to benefit themselves, than systematically raise the bar. :). It's like Petrol prices, quick to pass on increases, slow to drop price.

    • +6

It's necessary to find enough money to pay the salary of the executives.

    • +2

They scrapped 5 day delivery pre Covid.
Letter numbers are way down where parcels are up

The scrapped 5 day letter delivery and added more parcel delivery options
      including After Hours, Weekends etc

My area gets letters on Tue/Wed/Thur only

They also introduced a new priority label for letters (higher cost) to ensure quicker delivery of letters (2 days faster)
      https://auspost.com.au/general/changes-to-your-letters-servi…

They extended the next day network for express post (while this is on hold due to Covid)

      • +1

        Letter numbers are way down

The bills I receive aren't down. They are the only letters I get.

        • 100%

        • They are down for me as well. I get most of bills by email now. All the easier to forget them till they send a third reminder by post.

    • +1

We get deliveries Mon, Wed & Fri one week, then Tues & Thurs the next week. Anything that requires a signature, we always get a card in the letter box, even though we work from home.

      • Same here (mail day today), but only for letters. Parcels are every day.

  • +8

It's also a reason for them to sell their express post service, without the express post guarantee.

    • A bait and switch? those rascals!

    • I think you will find that Express post only gets delivered on the same days as regular post. From their website

Express Post is still the fastest way to get mail from A to B, but we can’t guarantee next-business-day delivery right now. Items may take longer than usual to arrive.

It has been over a year since the first lock down, and other delivery vendors have adapted.

What is the excuse for not using other delivery vendors?

  • LNP are trying to privatise AusPost. Labor members doesn't care or support it. Same with ABC.

Vote for a smaller party in next election that will improve government services, or at least not degrade it.

    • +3

      LOL Diji?

      • +3

Pretty common theory is they got rid of the last CEO because she made Aus Post profitable.
Not much different to LNP targeting ABC, cutting popular shows to reduce viewers. Same LNP that wanted to sell the Asian part of ABC to Sky News.

I think she was used as a scapegoat to distract attention from other issues, particularly politician related scandals.

I've generally had better service from the Auspost because of the increase in 'safe drop' deliveries. Same with Fastaway(Aramex) and Couriers Please with Amazons permission to 'leave without signature' due to covid practices….

On the other hand the Psuedo Auspost Startrack service is starting to move onto my Sh*t list with the signature/no one is home issues :(

  • Posties are overloaded due to the massive massive rise in online shopping since Covid, some work 6 days a week, and their pay is still the same, $1ish per parcel if they drive the companies van. If you feel like you can do better, feel free to apply as they want more workers but the Aussies literally say they ll just stay on Centrelink instead.

    • +1

It’s as if they might need to pay a little more to get more workers.

      • They can't afford to pay a little more coz the Lamborghini and Cartier need more attention.

  • +1

Aus Post Delay Coronavirus Outbreak excuse

The real reason is the shortage of Cartier watches within Australia Post…

    • I find it interesting that only the one greasing the wheels got punished, the ones whose wheels got greased got away scott-free.

      • the ones whose wheels got greased got away scott-free.

        What did they do wrong?

        • Probably 🙍🏼‍♂️'s

  • Has anyone started receiving notifications from parcel companies with very specific timings (like the below?)

Your parcel from (insert store name here) is coming today, between 01:02pm-03:02pm.
If nobody's home to sign, we'll take it to a local Post Office

    • Part of the new scanner upgrades for the Aus post van drivers.

The approx 150 odd parcels are optimised into a route and the scanner then calculates the eta.

  • I don't think they are doing that bad. USPS and PostNL were absolute garbage when I used them last year. I guess it doesn't necessarily apply only to Auspost?

This is why Amazon makes Amazon so good. The fact that 99% of the time, if it says it will arrive by a certain date…it arrives by that date.

Aus Post have and will always be the most useless postal service a country has to offer.

    • This is why Amazon makes Amazon so good. The fact that 99% of the time, if it says it will arrive by a certain date…it arrives by that date.

      But doesn't Amazon use AusPost?

Auspost is just one of many carriers that Amazon uses. They currently list 17 on their website.

        • +1

Didn't know that. Everything I have had has been AusPost.

        • +1

I have had only one Parcel from Aus Post through Amazon, and it was 2 days late.

          Hence the 99% 😂

          • @iNeed2Pee: always leave 1% for the outliers :D

      • +2

I read somewhere, that Amazon contracts AP for part of their deliveries, so AP will prioritise Amazon parcels over their own AP parcels.

        • +1

100% correct. Auspost bends over backwards for amazon

    • I think the best part that they have is that they actually have a system that sends you little bit of something if anything runs late.

I had one item that came one day late (I think it was more the vendor's fault, since I had nothing else come late), and it was talking about if it comes later than this date blah blah. I was pleasantly surprised.

Granted it was not much, but the fact that they acknowledge that things getting delivered later than the expected late is a problem that needs to be addressed basically. eBay has their guarantee as well, like eBay plus, I don't think it applies to enough things.

    • Sitting here waiting for my amazon parcel that was due by today.
Auspost havent delivered it and its not looking good.

    • +1

Amazon is amazing, less than 24 hours most of the time. Like magic.

Say if I got a new phone today and need a case. Tomorrow it's there.

  • +1

Set the standards as low as Fastway/Aramex and Auspost will shine.
I think probably 90% of the time I order larger items, it will arrive within a week from east coast to west coast which isn't bad….except I have had one that I'm currently waiting on get lost at their Melbourne depot for 3 weeks. Lodged enquiries and simply get told to contact the seller because it's likely an automatic tracking message and not actually sent.

Amazon have set the bar though, had heaps of couriers that are like Uber deliveries rock up lately. No idea how they can do it all for $6/month with Prime. Best value subscription I've ever had.

  • Post from where?

  • For parcel delivery they have been rubbish for decades covid made no difference. For letters now it can take up to three sends before finally arrives. Strange if you use express post they do deliver, not usually next day though. They have a monopoly so no incentive to provide decent service and government as majority shareholder doesn't care.
