I know the main ingredient is the same as panadol, but is there any other ingredient in the medicine that make it different?

    • +14

It's all heavily regulated by the TGA. They have the same ingredients, the only difference is in size and 'swallowability'.

      • -1

        NICE.

        • -1

You spelled gay wrong in your name.

      • +1

the only problem with these (as far as I remember from the last sale) is that they're slightly big and round.
I buy the Aldi ones for $0.70 that are elongated, and much easier to take, The Coles ones are OK too.

but yeah, no difference, except shape.

    • Not really

    • +1

Just read this to get a better idea.

      https://www.choice.com.au/health-and-body/medicines-and-supp….

Edit : All classified as "fillers"

Further research (unfortunately from two different country sources - UK and Aust) says

      Panadol has these

Other ingredients: Maize starch, potassium sorbate (E 202), purified talc, stearic acid, povidone, starch pregelatinised, hypromellose, triacetin.
      https://www.drugs.com/uk/panadol-original-tablets-leaflet.ht…

      Panamax has
Maize starch, Purified talc, Pregelatinised starch, Povidone, Stearic acid, Potassium sorbate
Panamax tablets do not contain gluten, lactose, sucrose, tartrazine or any azo dyes.

the active ingredient (Paracetamol) is the same. the filler might differ.

But the main difference is the marketing budget. If you like Panadol ads, packaging, in-store advertising, then buy their product to support them.

Here's an old Choice article about it.

      https://www.choice.com.au/health-and-body/medicines-and-supp…

One difference might be which country they're manufactured in, if that makes a difference to you. I believe Panadol is made in Oz and often genetics are made in India, Indonesia, etc.

    • +2

No, but I find that some people have some sort of placebo effect when they use the expensive option.

      You forgot ❤️

(That one’s for all the Roxy Music fans…)

    • I remember there was some OP in the forums who was asking if they could claim paracetamol as a tax deduction. Apparently they needed it for work but were taking more than the recommended daily amount.

  • +19

Thx OP, bought 10 to deal with jv's comments!

    *love ya man

  • My GP suggested when I do get a covid jab, pop a few paracetamols before hand. Apparently the first jab for AZ seems to cause most issues for people, but it's the second for the Pfizer jab.

    • +7

      🤨

Recommended dose rate is probably not 'pop a few'.

      • +2

        pop a few

        According to Dr Nick Riviera

      • a few is a small number greater then one. A couple is a subset of a few. well within the recommendated dosage.

    • So take Pfizer first and AZ second.

      • +1

i suggested that and he said they are trialing that (not for the side-effect reasons) in Europe.

Is Panamax big pharma? I thought it was the cheap off-brand that Panadol wished didn't exist.

Either way, I've had almost 100% success in pain relief using Panamax. The only time it didn't work was just recently when I got Covid jab 1. Had a headache two days later that wouldn't go away. I'm no scientist though, it could not have even been related to the jab.

      • -2

All those blood clots and people dying could not have been related to the jab either. Because channel 7 and the "experts" told me so.

      • +4

panamax is a sanofi product, who are a huge multinational.

        • Ah ok, thanks. I did not know.

    • Mate, it's paracetamol. It doesn't pretend to be anything else. Is your issue with this deal or with Big Pharma

  • +1

    nice..

      came here for this

  • Cocaine's on sale?

Worry for the Chinese children that built your smartphone instead

      • +2

why not worry about Indian children as well?

        • -1

You missed the post I was replying to

    • +3

As opposed to $0 if they were not?

  • At this price for $1 million you could buy enough panamax for the entire country for a year (5.8 pills per person).

    • I'll just get my checkbook.

  • +2

It was $0.49 in March. This is a whole 20 cents more which is 40% higher cost! Sneaky… Lol

    • +1

Buddy you should take the H out of your name :P

    • 20 cents more which is 40% higher cost!

Ahh, I see you would make a great statistics analyst for a local newspaper:

Suburb yearly car accident death toll rises by 300% !!!*
      * from 1 death to 3

  • Ozbargain’s favourite drug is on sale again.

Thanks, got a few of these to store next to my eneloops and victorinox knives.

  • Headaches BE GONE!

  • Better living through chemistry.

    • uhhh, yes?

      • It's an old Monsanto ad campaign from the USA.

  • +2

Bought it the other day at full price. Enjoy my sacrifice ;(

    • +1

      When you are with me

      I'm

      FREEE3EEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • Thanks OP, perfect timing for the headache that just wouldn't shift, took 1 with an advil = makeshift nuromol! #OzPharma!!

  • how much would be fatal?

    • Over what timeframe?

      • 24 hrs.

        • +1

I would estimate at least 100, probably more to be toxic enough to straight up kill and not just liver failure which would then take days.

    • +1

Paracetamol is a terrible drug to overdose with. It will (profanity) up your liver and you will die a prolonged, painful death by liver failure.

You would probably die faster choking on these giant powdery tablets than on an overdose :D

      • Paracetamol is a terrible drug to overdose with.

Are there better drugs to overdose with?

        • +1

Fentanyl because you will just nod off to sleep, but I'm not sure if Chemist Warehouse stocks them.

  • It sucks you can only buy 1 pack of these without looking like a druggie that I am. I have to keep returning wearing different masks so I can pretend to be a different person. All so I can fulfill my Panamax addition.

  • What aisle are these in or are these behind the counter (pharmacy)? I don’t shop at CC (too far). But these are a good price to get 1 box and some other items

    • Behind counter as it’s a 60 pack.

    • usually on the shelves near the pharmacy, along with other painkillers
