Looking for the best deal for my wife to take 12 year old son to Hamilton Island around 31 March for 6/7 nights with a budget of $2,800 for flights & accom. only.
Any alternative for a great kids holiday, with one adult, with that budget around that time would be most welcome.

Thanks very much petey … that's a great help. We've now stretched the budget (from 2,500) to $2,800 for airfares & accom. only.
We are looking at an ocean view room for 6 nights at the Reef View Hotel from 31/3 - $2,009 plus Jetstar $796 (although we might be able to lower the fares if we get lucky with your lunchtime specials).

I'm not sure if your budget includes activitys on the Island, but for accomododation and flights you might be able to squeeze it in.
I don't know this helps but for flights Virgin have a happy hour for online bookings between 4-6pm Monday - Friday. You might have to look @ Jetstar or Tiger if they fly to the Island.

Also was looking at hotels for those dates on wotif, Palm Bungalow with b/fast was $270/night, 7 nights is $1890, so as long as you can get a good deal on flights, yes you could do the budget. It says room is 1 King bed and 1 Single. Not bad including breakfast. Rates are for 2 people.
