How so? Seems far more polished than Sword and Shield, at least so far from what I've played.

      • +12

that's a low bar, why should Pokemon games be held to such a poor standard?

        • +1

Because SwSh was pretty lazy and phoned in, in some parts anyway.

New Snap definitely does not seem that way. Still haven't explained why you think New Snap is lazy and phoned in either?

          • @swanny246: most of the Pokemon move around like the animatronic figures from the old Pirates of the Caribbean ride, apples bounce off invisible forcefields, the Pokemon react to things in extremely scripted ways, if they react at all.

the landscapes are quite lush and impressive, but the world as a whole feels plastic, scarcely any better than the 64 version if not for the extra polys and better lighting. Missed opportunity.

            • +1

@diamondd: fair enough, I haven't noticed any of those problems personally, but I guess there's enough going on in one level that "scripted reactions" isn't exactly a problem. I do know the game didn't deviate too much from the original version, but I don't think it necessarily had to either? It just feels like an upgrade with new Pokemon and new levels?

IMO Legends Arceus will be the true test to see what they can do with shaking up the formula and animations.

            • @diamondd: I think you're being overly critical here. For what it is and what it's trying to be, I don't see how they could have done much better.

    • Have you actually played it??

    • +10

I don't understand your comparisons to completely different games

all first party Nintendo titles, all similarly priced, not all made to the same standard.

I'm making a quality assessment based on price, New Pokemon Snap is not up to it, similar to all the other Pokemon titles of late.

    Oh snap

  • +4

It’s $64 so it will already have the free delivery regardless of if you have prime.

    • Good point, thanks, fixed.

A worker at EB accidentally charged me a total of 59 instead of 69, when I price matched my pre-order with JB Hi-Fi 😀 Waiting to play it once I finish these damn uni assignments

  • I just paid $67

I hope you'll be able to recover from your loss

This game is great - if you're a fan of the original it's an absolute no brainer.

    • +3

I agree. My only issue is that I never realised how many pokemon I had never heard of, and how some are just getting lazy with the names like Swanna and Ducklett

      • Oh man I was the same for a long long time - though PoGo has helped me develop affection for the later gens that I've had no real exposure to otherwise. There's still mons showing up in Snap that I assume are from Sw/Sh that I've never heard of though. It does feel weird to have loved Pokemon for 25 years and yet feel so ignorant haha.

      • +2

You know they're really running the premise thin when you start seeing Pokemon that are trash bags or floating ice-creams.

  • +1

The previous Pokémon snap was a highlight of my childhood, but I stopped following Pokémon after that. Is this a good game if you haven’t kept up with Pokémon? Or is a lot of it the excitement of being able to photograph Pokémon you’re familiar with?

    • +1

Its still a great game, there is a lot of pokemon that you will have no idea, some I even said "Wait, that is a pokemon?" but yep still a great game that has more depth than the original. I liked it when I did see ones that I did recognise.

    • +1

Plenty of first and second gen Pokemon here, but I think it's still enjoyable interacting with the new Pokemon. It's a fun relaxing game.

  • Nice! Anyone know if this is good for little kids? I have a son turning 3 in a few weeks.

    • +2

My 3 year old girl isn't really interested, my 5 year old boy likes it. In saying that, your 3 year old might enjoy watching you play it, bright colors and cute characters.

      • Does it require much reading to play?

        • +2

Yeah there is a bit, but once they get the hang of how to move and take photos they should be ok

    • +2

bought it for my daughter, hope she likes it… else daddy will have to play it :)

  • +1

Really chilled game, love it. Good for hour bursts!

  • +4

Struggling to see the appeal of this one. But it's getting good reviews and comments and I like pokemon. So i'll give it a go!

    • +2

the concept comes across as too light for a lot of people, but it's an on-rail shooter if it helps. visually it blows any other pokemon game out the water, and shows pokémon in a completely different light from what we see in the main games where it's mostly been unchanged.

the game has helped people care about a lot of throw-away pokémon. bidoof is a meme-god but god it's cute as hell in game, seeing taillows fly off when you throw fruit at them, bouffalants with flower hats is just so nice

      • +1

The more i read into it, the more i want to play it… Thanks for the reply.

  • I ordered this from Amazon on Tuesday at $67 and it was delivered yesterday :-(
Just asked them if they could refund me the difference but they said nope :-(

    • +1

You just have to say you plan on returning it within your 30 day return period and buying it again. Then they realise they lose more money having you return to buy again then just the refund and they will give you back the difference.

      • Thanks…I tried mentioning that but they told me since the item is not damaged then I would have to pay for return shipping which is $7 when I checked so it's not worth it for me to do that.

        • -1

If youre a prime member then you will be fine, I have never had an issue with doing it

          • @Thunder-Wombat: Thanks. I am a Prime member… However, they said no when I asked and when trying to return it online, the system automatically applies a $7 postage fee so I don't see how it can be avoided.

            • +1

@Oceadge: Try with the different reasoning for return.

      • wait i thought with amazon you can return for free with change of mind?

        • I cannot see how to do that. Maybe it was an option in the past?

    • +1

Try asking them to credit the difference rather than refund. With credit, they more likely to give you that as you can only spend it on Amazon.

      • Thanks, I asked them for a refund first and when they said no I asked for a credit but they still said no.

        • +1

Yeah some can be a pain sometimes. Try another chat operator, I sometimes have to try different person to get that credit too.

          • +1

@akte: Just tried this with Amazon rep and said return and reorder. I'm like can't you just apply the credit…nope

    • +2

Interesting - I pre-ordered my copy at $68 and the day after I got it received an email advising I'd been automatically refunded $1 due to the price dropping.

  • +2

Nearly every child in my sons school plays Valorant … I get him Pokemon … :-)

  • Pretty addictive, such a chill out game, liking it more than I thought lol traded 6 games got 50 Percent bonus plus Lev 4. Got snap for 29 with the deal and came out 46 in credit.

  • +2

I bought this from EB and ended up returning it. The first 8 or so runs you do are on the same course again and again and again. It slowly evolves over these (a few of them are at night), but I wanted more variety sooner and it was clear they were making me replay the missions to pad the runtime.

Wonder if JB will price match
