I've just taken on a new job as a Marketing Manager for a small-medium fitness equipment supplier.
I have not come from a marketing background… so I was just wondering whether anyone could offer any good advice on the topic.

Budget?
Hit up eBay and buy a few marketing books; you can also find heaps of ebooks on the subject to get more ideas.
Like most things in life the skills come with a trial/error approach. Just buy as many books as you can and read read read read read…. take notes. That is what I do with my business.
