How Can I Stop Ad Analytics

I have a Windows 10 operating system. I use Edge as my browser and IPSTAR as my provider. Checking my internet usage this morning, I find that I have used 1.3 GB of my usage on ad analytics. I search with google. I must admit I have never seen this before, so maybe I have missed it or its something new. I have found out what ad analytics are, but I cant find out how I can stop ad analytics on my computer. Can anyone help.

I use uBlock Origin by Raymond Hill on FireFox to block tracking and ads, it's best thing I've installed since surfing the internet and say goodbye to ads on Youtube. But I suggest leaving it off for certain sites like ozBargain :)

If you want to continue using Edge instead of FireFox, you can try this one its not made by the same developer so I cannot comment how well it works.

I also suggest changing your search engine to DuckDuckGo instead of Google as they track you less. But sometimes the results aren't as good, but it's only a matter of time before they keep improving it or you can use Google once in awhile. Make sure you change your default search engine in settings to automatically use DDG as default search engine so it doesn't revert to Google/Bing.

You probably cannot stop everything. As you are using edge, consider adding browser extensions such as:

The IBA opt-out. This is Google's own extension to limit its tracking

Then, do a search for the EFF Privacy Badger and uBlock extensions. They are both very good at removing tracking cookies and the like.

Finally, why not move to duckduckgo.com as your search engine? It is as good as Google but has no tracking.

Also, you may want to reset your browser. Delete all cookies and other bits which may be used as trackers.

And, check your Windows privacy settings as this may not be just Google. I would at least turn off location and advertising ID as suggested on the link below.

Brave is an alternative Chromium browser if you're open to changing from Edge. It has less tracking and you can still add Chrome extensions.

  • firefox + ublock origin for me + duckduckgo as search engine

Just because you search on Google, it doesn't really matter. It is the analytics tracking on websites that is doing the analytics tracking. Almost every website would have it, even OzBargain does.

As suggested, use an Adblocker or extension to stop the tracking if you are that concerned. I use Adblock in Chrome. I mainly use it to block the ads, not really the data tracking.

If you're up for the challenge and a bit tech-savvy. I recommend looking at buying a raspberry pi and install PiHole . Gives you a complete home network solution to stop ads and protects your privacy for you and anyone who uses your home network.
