  • Have you searched this site, eg, for SMS?

If you want to send more than 300 SMSs, you'll want to look farther than the deal cited in the 1st reply you got.

  • ok thanks i'm looking now. anything else out there?

  • Theres sms global, uses your number. You can register for I think 25 free sms's, more if you can find a special code somewhere.

    • 250 or so, use crave i think the promo code was

  • pinger.com and it's free.

  • does pinger.com work?

    • Definetly does. Im always using it. Just put a fake US address and select your US number for free. Log on to pinger and then send txt messages for free.

Also if you want you can setup a US itunes account and download the pinger iphone app for free. So that app will let you send and receive text messages from pinger on your phone.

  • well or just join one of many sms site. smspup, smsglobal, smsboardcast, smsfun. it's free as well

  • freemoneyhunter - i got smsfun too. but is gold status free? I thought u only got gold member for certain time?

  • GOLD status is different. When you are gold all your SMS are sent as gold. A free user can send gold SMS by using up a joobz to pay for it. New accounts get 5 joobz.

  • ok thanks bro. what's the catch of smsfun.com.au? what's my daily limit of sms messages? how many messages can i send to myself?

  • You can use skype to send SMS', you can tether it to your phone so when you send a message, the return number is your mobile number.

  • If you just need to send stuff like links and notes to yourself (phone), theres stuff that sort of work like chrome to Android and other phones, assuming you have a smart phone.

  • how can you use skype to send SMS? i just want to send SMS from my PC to my mobile.

    • you have to put credit on your skype account, it costs around 11c each time

      • oh ok. and you have to send have a smart phone right?

        • sorry but i don't understand the question.

Skype allows you to call or sms any mobile in australia for a reasonable cost. Works on windows and mac, im not sure about linux though.

The real benefit is that you can "spoof" your own mobile number, so when i message friends on skype, it appears to be from my mobile phone number, and they don't realise im a tight @ss

  • SMSGlobal also used to give out 225 free SMS.

However if you are willing to pay and don't want to spam forums and other websites with your SMSFun referral — there are quite a few "cheap" SMS solutions. I use FishText (http://www.fishtext.com/), UK based operation that lets you SMS Telstra/Optus/Vodafone numbers at 2 pence per SMS (~AUD$0.03) which is probably one of the cheapest out there, and pretty quick delivery as well. You can send via their website, or mobile apps on iOS, Android or J2ME.

    • It's 225 free (promo code: crave) + 25 signup credit, so 250 in total.
They're very good, just order free or $2 sims and its a new account :)
So effectively, 0.8 cents per SMS if you use $2 sims :D

  • scotty, for online services, free is the only option for most people, no matter how cheap a online service is, Australians will not pay.

    http://www.theaustralian.com.au/media/aussies-love-new-the-i…

I don't think I have paid for any online service ever.

    • Ha. Speak for yourself! :)

I have paid for plenty of online service especially those I use everyday to sort out my life and getting my work done. Many Australians are used to pay for services such Foxtel, and I can't see how you get the idea that "Australian will not pay".

  • Read the article. it says 91% will not pay.

  • I have got a Woolworths Mobile Global Roaming Sim card, it allows you to send a text to anywhere in the world for six cents. WOW You just log onto site and send text, the SIM doesn't have to be in your phone (once registered etc). Good way to use up left over credit.

  • you can use airdroid if you have an android phone. It just sends messages thorough your phone.

  • MySMS - sends through the phone using your phone plan, has clients for Mac/PC and all the popular mobiles.

  • try www.smspup.com.au - but I think you have to earn points or something,
you decide if it's worth joining! LOL that's my 2 cents for ya

  • I use http://www.afreesms.com/intl/australia

Cost you nothing for most carriers (the number receiving the sms). No signups, no hidden fees or charges. But you have to pay for the data cost ~50kb in advertising. I haven't tried sending overseas SMSs but should be free as well

Sometimes you may need to put your phone number or identifier in the message so the receiver knows who is sending it.
