    Perth to Auckland

    Thats rather optimistic.

    • +1

Optimistic for sure, but that's a damn good price for a direct flight

        • Theres also the Nuclear option

    Heads up.

Air New Zealand will NOT refund your ticket if your flight gets cancelled. Instead you will be stuck with a credit.

I recommend going on Qantas only if going to NZ - Qantas will refund you in the event that they cancel your flight.

    • +19

lol people are still waiting for refunds from qantas from 12 months ago

      • +1

I got stuffed round with them missing my refund date 3 times. complained on the twitter and they sorted it that week

        • Power of social media haha

      • I had a flight cancelled in March and was advised that it could take up to 8 weeks for the refund to process. It was done in about 4 weeks which is still 3 weeks and 6 days too long.

    • +4

Air New Zealand used to always be my go to, right up they hit me with a $1,000 cancellation fee for a flight they cancelled (I specifically bought refundable flights, they decided to hit me with that). Fortunately the credit card company backed me on it and refunded me (after a really long process).

I was lucky to get what I got, at the time AirNZ were telling most people they could only get credit and that it would only last 6 months and broke US law by refusing to give the yanks refunds. They killed a lot of goodwill really quickly.

      • +2

I know right… what other industry can decide not to provide you with the service you paid for and not be required to refund you.
US and EU forced the airlines to refund, yet AU with all our consumer laws, nothing.

    • Credit is prob easier? You can rebook straight away and use it to buy upgrades direct from their portal

    • +1

Lol you can only just get SYD-MEL return for $60.

I've never seen $262 return to the US let alone during these covid times.

        • +3

Curious when/where did you get SYD-MEL return for $20?

          • -3

@henrus: maybe 5 years back buddy

          • +10

@henrus: July 1927. Of course, back in those days you could drive the horse and buggy to Melbourne rather than take the flying wing, but that required 17 stops along the way to feed and water the horses. It used to cost 3 pence to feed a horse in Newcastle and 2 pence in Albury so I'd make sure to fatten the horses up before leaving. One time I fed my horses for just 1 penny, but that was back in the days that a penny was worth more than a farthing, due to the picture of the king on it. The king once said that flying wings were the tool of the devil but he probably meant devilled eggs as they used to transport eggs to him via flying wings in those days. Anyway, on the 16th stop to feed and water the horses is where I met Mabel, my wife. She never knew about Annie who was at the 16th stop who once charged me 4 pence to feed a horse….

            • @freefall101: haha gave me a laugh. I guess in 2021 you could do it for free (or the cost of a marker) if you find some cardboard and try to hitchhike between the two.

                  • -3

@fantombloo: sorry mate, I ain't assembly programmer lol (I am sure you must be one, and like in COBOL days lol), I am a Java Programmer, .NET Core Programmer, Azure, GCP, AWS AI programmer, mate! All you can think of serverless and containers or canary release :D

Not an assembly or Fortran expert like you :D I don't use linux lol (Not old skool) :D

          • @Jamiea: The new COVID normal

      • May be just a carry on luggage with no passenger included for $2xx. Merry must be still dreaming

    • +1

      Wow!

Be thankful that we can at least fly to another country with reasonable fares.

This is NOT a normal situation and many other countries dont have this luxury.

      • -8

jesus Idont have to fly to other country lol with this price, and it works for you and you need to fly and its a bang for your buck, i dont need and doesnt interest me, at this rate. If it were 30$ return to NZ, I would have purchased and marketed too voluntarily lol

        • +4

You sound like an entitled shit.

$30 won't get you 30 mins in a taxi let alone an international flight.

          • -5

@Caped Baldy: No, dont flame out foul words, when i didn't on you. And, taxi 30 mins can give less than 30$ in uber rewards program. Also, many platinum cards offer upto 600$ free frequent flyer thing

          • @Caped Baldy: Planes are more efficient pp/km than a taxi?

    • Return airport taxes are $210 mate

      • thats way expensive lol

        • Is it? Better take that up with the Australian and NZ governments and the private airports

          • @UberIsCool: I drive my own car mate, Nobody listens me if I say about price :D

      • Air NZ fares in their portal has a breakdown of fees. So many redundant ones, god. Next year there will be a surcharge for breathing

        • You joke but surely a fresh air tax will be implemented in our lifetime…

  • +3

That’s crazy good for gold coast - auckland

Think airlines overestimated demand for these flights, I just got back from a week long trip, both flights syd-akl and back were probably half filled at most, and those were pretty cheap flights (paid $312 return a week out - note taxes alone are about $238)

    • They are probably flying as much as they could. Not sure about Air NZ, but Qantas is still on Qantaskeeper, so NZ probably got similar.

      • But Qantas already fired all the long-term staff and replaced with cheaper ones

        • But Qantas already fired all the long-term staff and replaced with cheaper ones

Does that mean no more granny hostees?

    • Is it intentional COVID safety distancing?

  • +1

Bought mine a few ago and it was twice the price. Does anyone know if I can apply for a credit and get these flights while on they're sale? Flight's in 3 weeks time :/

    • +1

same question for me, bought the same fair for like $250 more :(

      • +5

Hey buddy just applied for credit which came instantly, booked the same flight. Got credit leftover for my next trip!! :)

  • 24 June

Ah, the last day of term (in VIC).

"Return" to a country that apparently can and will make it illegal and a criminal justice for citizens to enter. Right.

    • -3

"Return" to a country that apparently can and will make it illegal and a criminal justice for citizens to enter. Right.

Could you say that again, this time in English?
Is this referring to criminals who are not citizens of Australia being deported back to their home country? I'm sure most people are fine with this. If you want to stay here, don't commit crimes.

      • +5

They’re referring to punishments for Aussies trying to get home from India.

      • I meant "criminal offence" instead of "criminal justice". I was unable to edit after I saw this grammatical error. Apologies.

  • Anyone know about Qantas cancellation if you used points only? They say you can cancel fee free but not sure if that means you will get refunded all your points or just get a credit of some sort.

Will ring them in the morning as I can't find any info about it.

    • +1

You will get everything refunded. Still subject to the standard (ridiculous) 12 week wait however

      • Ah no worries. Cheers

        • +1

For me, I got my points back 25 days after I cancelled my classic rewards booking. Got an email notifying me of the points refund. (Email said the refund of the cash component could take 8 weeks more)
The cash component (fees and taxes) was refunded 32 days after cancellation. Did not get an email notifying me of the cash refund.

$400 return Sydney to Auckland is not cheap imo.

    • Agreed. I consider fares approx. $300 and under to be a bargain for any east coast city to NZ with return.

  • +1

The problems is not getting there for a holiday, it’s finding decent accommodation at reasonable prices.

    • I think the problem is booking in advance then getting cancelled.

I would only book a week in advance.
