Please Help Me Choose a Camera for Monitoring Pets

Hi - just wondering if anyone can give some suggestions / reviews for what may work best for me to keep an eye on our 2 new kittens while I’m at work. They’ll have free run of the house once they’re settled but confined to ensuite/master bedroom for now.

They chew cords so I’d prefer wireless but if it is wired I can set up in ensuite pointed out at bedroom if need be as they won’t get to the cords in there (yet) so happy to consider both.

Eufy T8400CW4 I like the ability to select pet mode but is this worth the extra $$?

Wyze v3 seems a fave for basic use?

or something from Bunnings/Kmart??
Other suggestions welcome.

Would prefer no subscriptions and ability to watch back later without too much hassle, and main use would be ability to watch live from work. Easy to set up would be great as my tech skills are mediocre.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Wyze v3 looks good for the purpose and the price. However, just read the review on Amazon that these are not for sale outside US. They apparently require a US address for registration. You might need to do some research on forums to see if there is a workaround.

Thanks - I do have a forwarding address so that could work.

I've tried a few different cheap cameras, and now I use and recommend both the Reolink E1 Pro and Reolink E1 Zoom. The Pro is around $60 on eBay and the Zoom is around $80. With the Zoom you get optical zoom, slightly higher resolution, and wider FOV. I'm yet to find anything else for those prices that give such reliable, high quality RTSP streams with PTZ. Note that neither of these are wireless.

I haven't used the app (besides the initial setup), but others that I've recommended the cameras to say that it's easy to use including watching live and replays. No subscription fees when using local storage (memory card in the camera).

    • I use the reolink's outdoor cameras, because they're relatively cheap with no subscription fees or base station required.
Live streaming sometimes takes a couple of seconds to connect, but then is fine, so I assume the indoor ones would be good too.

      • Thanks both of you, these sound promising.

I have a D-Link DCS 8526LH I use to monitor my mice. Comes with an app you can use and it is a pan tilt function as well. You can set it up to send you alerts if it senses movement and also does ONVIF for use in other camera apps. Got it when it was on sale at JB HiFi.

Get the EUFY pan/tilt camera, and buy it via Banggood. Lots of deals here for it. I am very happy with mine. The pet detection is a little hit and miss, but for the price you can't really go wrong. It's also extremely easy to set up and use. You just need to shove a microSD card into it to record.

  • A couple of years back, someone noted Wyze has a catch "There's a catch with the "14 days free online storage" because after it detects movement it stores only roughly 12 seconds and it won't do it again for another 5 minutes making it almost pointless from a security point." I'm assuming this is still the case. Anything in Wyze price and feature ballpark that has better cloud recording?
