    Wow that is a bargain!

  • thanks op, ordered 1

any chance of getting this on deal again? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/549472

  • Pity it only has Mineral Glass

    • It's a divers so they often use mineral over sapphire as it doesn't shatter.

        • Fair enough, isn't that their patented crystal for diver watches?
Makes sense why Seiko is the popular choice for divers.

          • @bestywesty: Are many divers actually wearing their seikos on dives? I can't say I've ever seen anyone wearing a seiko diving, they normally wear a dive computer.

            • @richy_o: Sorry, I was mentioning it as the better selling aspect not practicle use in the divers sentence.
I don't dive so I assume professionals use professional grade equipment but when it comes to diver style watches, I often see watch enthusiasts loving the skx and the prospex.

              • +1

@bestywesty: Sorry mate, I didn't mean to single you out, it was more a general question about the Seikos as they are on sale on ozb all the time.

                • @richy_o: No worries. Specific diving digital watches do seem more practical but there are definitely watch/diving enthusiasts who do wear Seikos for diving.
Most people just like the style and the fact that the watch has the ability to be used for diving, but wouldn't risk wearing it even in the shower like me.

                  • @bestywesty: Yeah the only watch I have dived with has been my gshocks. I've taken a couple of them to 30+ metres and had no worries. I wouldn't dare do it to any others though

          • @bestywesty: Probably … but your point about avoiding shattering is correct

  • noob to watches. will this battery ever need to be replaced?

    • +1

It's automatic movement, no solar or battery involved

    • +1

Automatic no battery, but apparently you'll need to service it every few years, so you'll still fork out money

      • More like 10 years. But this is a throw a movement that a watch smith won't bother to service. Chuck in a new one, add a new gasket, lube it up and carry on. New movements are cheap as chips.

    • +1

Its a mechnical watch which you can hand wind or it will automatically wind the watch for you through the movement of your arm whilst walking or moving. The power reserve can generally last for just shy of two days on a full wind. (I think this one has 40 hours of power reserve)

No batteries required. Here is a snaphot of what you get in the box and up close shots of how it looks

The bracelet is the major let down, I have not been able to size my promaster myself and have now decided to just use a Nato strap until I find a suitable stainless steel bracelet.

Otherwise, this watch is amazing and punches above its wait in terms of money to value ratio.

      edited: details details

      • thanks mate great info there

      • What’s up with the bracelet? Isn’t it possible to push the pins through to remove links?

        • +2

This bracelet has folded links and its not a push pin system, its much harder to remove the middle thing (I forgot what its called), Whilst trying to remove the pin system in the middle, I have accidentally scratched the bracelet a couple of times because it is difficult to remove (or I don't have the right tools).

Super hard to resize properly, you can watch this from Islandwatch https://youtu.be/Bls6OhWNLKA?t=163
He also says this is the "least favourite" bracelet to resize.

The other issue with the bracelet is that it feels light and hollow (which it is) and also has a loud rattle. However, the clasp area has a sliding micro adjusting system which can fit a large range of wrists, but I'd still rather get another bracelet in general.

          • @frankthetank: Thanks for the insight. I'm not buying this one (have two examples of Citizen 8203 powered autos and a couple of Seiko Pepsi faced divers so there's not really a hole for it) but a good heads up on the band, something to keep an eye out for in the future on Citizens with steel bracelets.

        • I'm pretty sure you can.

          • @xoom: Yes, to clarify, you can resize by removing links and pushing the collared pin thing through is difficult, I just wanted to call that out.

  • Does anyone know whether the straps can be changed to a Citizen Promaster NY0086-16L or other nato straps?

    • 20mm strap size

  • That looks like a great price for a decent watch.

  • Promasters are the world's leading speciality watches, providing superior functionality in a variety of fields.

So what are the super functions?

    • it tells time? lol

    • +1

Mainly about the bezel features to assist elapsed time calculation.
      https://www.watchtime.com/blog/dive-watch-wednesday-the-basi…

But seconds, day and date are useful, of course, and the large glow paint markings, and I suppose the reversed crown position to avoid pinching against the back of your hand.

  • Will this be OK for 7.25-7.50 in wrist, or wear too small?

I have been waiting for this special to come back, but unsure about the size.

  • I love and hate you at the same time OP. Do I need another watch? No… but at this price, I had to get one anyhow. Comes with steel bracelet is an added bonus!

  • Good deal, thank you!
