Coca Cola Varieties 24+6 cans $15 @ Big W Eastland VIC (Possibly Others)

380

Current Big W back to school catalog has Coca Cola 24x375mL cans advertised for $15 which is not a bargain.

However, browsing at Big W Eastland today I saw a pile of the 24+6 bonus can packs of Coke also selling at $15.

This works out to be the magical bargain price of 50 cents per can. As an ozbargainer I refused to pay over this price for the last 4+ years as it would be really difficult to score one that works out cheaper than that.

There are quite a few available so grab them while you can. I suspect you may get some luck in other Big W stores as well.

Nice bargain mate, just quite ironic that they are pushing soft drink and junk food to kids who are getting fatter every day, kinda sad really.

    • +7

Why is it ironic? I don't think Big W markets itself as a health conscious brand anyways.

    • +2

      yes, how is it ironic?
and how are they pushing these to kids, exactly?

    • See reply below.

    • +2

Junk food doesn't make kids fat, poor decisions make kids fat. I drink plenty of soft drink and eat plenty of chocolate and I'm a healthy weight and have good cholesterol.

      • I wish I had your metabolism.

  • These should be in a lot of bigws. My one has about 10 pallets of just coke in the warehouse so I'm not surprised they want to get rid of it all. And they are definitely not going to even when their 24 packs are bumped to $17.92

  • Coca Cola - the quick way to get fat.

Study: Soda Does Not Make Kids Fat: http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=117527&page=1

Diet varieties of caffeinated drinks will, ironically, make you fat due to artificial sweeteners increasing your appetite and a high salt content causing you to retain water weight (if you consume more than two cans per day).

That being said, that's not the main reason you should be avoiding Diet/Sugar Free/Decaf varieties of anything.
Anything artificially-sweetened with Aspartame (substance 200 times sweeter than sugar) literally mutates your DNA, causes tumours and is responsible for a whole host of degenerative neurological symptoms.
It's approval for use as an additive is extremely controversial in both the US (FDA was accused of taking bribes and having close links to aspartame producers) and abroad and there has been a storied history of opposition to it's inclusion in a large amount of products.

Ordinary Coke/Pepsi won't make you fat or give you cancer, but the pH level and sugar content is naturally bad for you; in ridiculous quantities.

I've been drinking Coke for 22 years and I've never been overweight in my life.
      Genetics > All other influences.

If you retain weight from soluble cane sugars, chances are you have a rubbish metabolism in the first place and can't really eat anything unless it's celery without gaining weight, in which case you should be on some kind of a calorie deficit diet.

Please - anyone who reads the above post, please also do 5 minutes of research from reputable sites, and you'll get a slightly more reasonable answer than above.

The post above is blatantly wrong, sorry.

In my opinion, Excessive consumption of anything is not good for you. The sugar and therefore energy content of "full leaded" Coke is ridiculously high. Excessive consumption of this without adequate exercise WILL lead to weight gain in many circumstances.

Likewise, excessive consumption of Aspartame may be unhealthy for you as well. But there have been NO definitive studies to show a link between Aspartame consumption and cancers. There were several studies in the 70's/80's that were wrongly interpreted to support this link, but they have been revisted and redacted. As a result of the earlier studies, Nutrasweet particularly has a pseudo-bad name.

I choose Pepsi Max as my soft drink of choice for a few reasons. One - there is no sugar so no ridiculous calories. I don't overeat and therefore when I drink Pepsi Max I don't get the "empty" calories of sugared Coke/Pepsi/Lemonade/Fanta etc. Two - I like the taste.

Conspiracy theories aside, too much of anything is likely bad for you. Likewise, too much of reading people's advice on the internet can cause side effects as well.

        • Please… this is a bargain site. Not a health forum.

        • Nice post shmahoo, hate some of the ridiculous claims made on certain websites - and the fact that people can read one article and take it as gospel.. Same as those idiots who say "no one should eat more than xxx calories a day, or weigh more than xx kilos as it's unhealthy"… As if everyone is 100% the same..

  • (30 * 375) / 15 = $.75 a litre. (Not a Math major so correct me if I'm wrong)
Awesome value if you compare to coles/safeway.
Pepsi Max is at best $1.00 a litre and Coke is usually upwards of $1.50 if your lucky!
Great find for the Coke addicted. When I say it like that, I feel like a drug addict :)

    • I find coles brand products taste just like the label products, that might just be showing how little of the crap I do drink, it is as cheap as the half price fruit juice woolies had which was really good.

I'd swear that Aldi softdrinks are coke products

        • "I'd swear that Aldi softdrinks are coke products"

          ahahahahahhahahahahahhaa you can't be serious

      Your maths is wrong.
You've got litres per dollar there, we want dollars per litre (15/(30*.375) = 1.33)

      • Can you express I mpg for the oldies?

    • My pleasure: it's actually 1 buck for 0.75l, which works out to be 1.33 bucks per litre.

    • +1

Sorry, but a quick check will show your maths is out of whack. If these are 375ml cans and are 50 cents each then using rough figures we would need to have three cans to equal a little over a litre so the cost will be something under $1.50 a litre. You should have calculated as follows…

      30 * .375 = 11.25 litres

      $15 / 11.25 = $1.3333333…

      • +1

hahah. Thanks for the correction. $1.33 is a little less attractive then.
        Good ol' Spud maths!

  • are they the 375ml cans or the new 330ml cans?

    • Picture says 375.

      • nice have to go get some

Brisbane Carindale Confirmed today, they arent in the main soft drink section, they're in one of the walkways.

    • +1

Maybe one of the walkways that the fat coke addicts can't fit down.

      .
      .
      .

      Just joking guys

    • The proper big w terminology would be "foreway" or "action aisle". :D

  • Do they have Coke Zero or Diet Coke?

    • +1

      Yep! (@Big W Robina)

  • $17 a carton in SA (because of our 10c recycling deposit), if you can find them … Noarlunga had a big full pallet in their walkway on Day 1 of this catalogue, but the next morning the pallet was replaced with something else. Going to assume they don't want to sell the bonus "free" boxes at that price :/

Either way, I stocked up when I saw them the first day so I'm happy :)

Big W Burleigh only had the 24 pack for $15. Bought it anyway to make the trip worth it.
