Can I Get a CRN from Centrelink with a Expired Learners Licence?

I'm currently in the process of trying to get a CRN from Centrelink and wasn't able to apply online because my learner's licence was expired.

Is there are a way to get a CRN without possessing a current driver's licence?

What did Centrelink say when you called them?

Please hold, your call is important to us, you are customer number #89 in queue, your estimated wait time is 17 hours.

then they hang up on you as they answer.

    • Weren't able to call them unfortunately

      • Why not?

    passport? birth certificate?

You’ll need 1 of these documents:

    Australian birth certificate
    Australian citizenship certificate
    current Australian passport
    Australian visa.

You’ll also need 1 of these documents:

    Australian Citizenship by Descent Certificate
    Australian driver licence
ImmiCard issued by the Department of Home Affairs.

    • The problem I'm facing is the two sections, since I only have an expired driver license for the second section

How long ago did it expired?

In NSW you can get a proof of age card with expired driver licence.

Then use that proof of age to apply for Centrelink?

        • It expired 8 months ago?

@Eccend: Not my problem, and even I read the first part… 8 months is less than 2 years…

What is stopping you from just renewing it? Everyone needs some form of ID card in Australia anyway. If you can't renew it, then get a photo card as suggested

            • @Butt Scratcher: The main problem that's stopping me mostly is that I have to retake the learner's test to renew my license, and I can't book anything until June. Even with the photo card apparently it takes 10 business days for them to post it so was looking for a quicker alternative if there was one.

@Eccend: You've already let it expire for 8 months, don't procrastinate even further. I did a bit of searching in my area and literally found a spot for tomorrow at 11am.

Also, with a digital licence you don't need to wait for it to come. If they don't require you to upload a photo of it as part of the verification, then good, you already know your licence number

                • @Butt Scratcher: Yeah I searched around for areas within 2 hours but unfortunately they were all booked :( But yeah I should definitely get on to renewing it.

With the digital verification they require you to put in the license expiry date so unfortunately can't use that

                  • @Eccend: The expiration is X years from when you get it. L's has an expiration of 5 years was it?

So say you complete your L's and get it on 30/4/2021, then it expires on 30/4/2026

                    • @Butt Scratcher: So you're saying I can register as soon as I pass the test right? Yeah I'm gonna find a time to book the test and get it done soon

                      • @Eccend: I don't know how the backends of it works, but you definitely have a valid licence the day you pass/received your licence. That's why they give you that paper slip while you wait for your licence to come

  • Google "australia identity check 100 points" and read…

If you don't have the required info to do it online you will just have to do it in person.

https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/individuals/topics/if-w… Pretty much is the full list of what they accept in person. If they did accept an expired document/s online they would likely still require you to visit in person anyway.

    • Any chance I could give them a call instead? Provided I manage to get a call…

Why are you so against going in there to prove who you are?

      • No, you're going to need provide what's requested to obtain it.

Any reason why you can't/won't take the easier option of going in for a visit?

        • +1

Mainly because of time and transport since I can't drive to nearest centrelink, and also wanted to check beforehand whether I had enough documentation so I didn't go in and then instantly get rejected cause I have an expired drivers license

    • Welp, pretty screwed for the primary documents section

  • You don't need a license to be on the dole
