Osko Payment Not Going Through

So I did my usual PayID from one of my banks to another where I pay my utilities and rent from on the 27th. The funds appear in my account but on deposit. When I tap on it, it states Osko “In Progress”. Waited a couple of days, rent overdue so paid from another account.

I sent another PayID for a small amount today and same results. Then did a Beemit transfer and it went through immediately as always. Tried ringing the bank - Citibank but getting somebody to talk to seems impossible with the options offered and I tried every option for over an hour. I rang the bank I sent it from and they said all good our end talk to Citibank.

So I came up with a plan so cunning you could pin a tail on it and call it a weasel. I’d try and get somebody who wants applications for a home loan. Goggled and found a number. Talked to the person telling them what had happened and they said go back to the bank it came from. I said done that and everything is in order and the funds are showing as received in my account but “in progress”. They then checked and agreed. Solution? They’ll ring me back in 3 hours….. how confident am I out of 10? Minus 10.

Anybody else had this problem? Lucky I’m not a paycheque to paycheque person or I’d be in a real bind with the people I should have paid by now. Beemit rules from now on!

Edit: of course they didn’t ring back.

i really expected this to be "my osko payment hasn't gone through and the dude on gumtree has already sent the goods"

    • I wouldn’t be complaining about that. I’d change my name, phone number and put on a disguise

y would u do that? ohhhh you think the police care about idiots losing money online :D thats cute!!!
        (seriously, they dont care)

  • what is the amount ? Happened to me once when trying to pay the rent and I found that the maximum amount should be less than $1000 (might be different now and depends on the bank as well) for an instant transfer, otherwise it won't be an OSKO but a normal bank trasfer.

    • $750 and the second one was $5

  • I don't even know what you are on abuot

  • Osko payments are designed for instant transfers of under $500. Above that amount, for security reasons, they hold onto the money for 24 hours. So your $750 will be in the account you transferred it to, 24 hours and 1 minute after you made the transaction.
Had this problem myself, and my bank (CBA) told me the above.

    • I hadn’t heard that. I do this regularly and it has always been instant. I did a $5 transfer and the same result. The $750 one finally came through after 3 days, one phone call and 2 emails later and the $5 is still in progress. I transferred by PayID to another bank during the period and it was seamless as usual. Part of the reason for my post was because people trading online use PayID for settlement and this would be disturbing or possibly used by scammers as an excuse.

  • My real estate agent informed that Osko & PayID can't be enabled for payments to Rental Trust Accounts.

I don't know if this is universal or just the policy of this REA.

    • There can be a number of reasons they fail. If the accounts/BSB are flagged for not supporting OSKO then generally it won't even attempt to send it via OSKO from any bank.

Some banks hold on to OSKO payments for ~24 hours for security purposes (basically gives them time to look at the transfers flagged manually to see if it's linked to known scams etc.)

Then sometimes it's simple tech issues and the sender or receivers end (bank tech I'm referring to). If the bank attempts to send OSKO and the receiving account can't then it can get stuck and it depends on both the banks tech to return funds etc.
