PSA: Kogan 3rd Party Sellers Can't Track Stock Levels

I'm sure many people already know this but figured I'd write about my recent experience in case in enlightens a few people.

To tell the short version, I ordered a product on the 19th of April that was listed as "Low Stock" and told on my order page that it would be dispatched on the 26th of April.

Come the 26th of April, the ETA was removed with no ETA instead saying "We're running slightly behind but you can expect to hear from us soon!".

I contacted the seller yesterday (2 days after it was originally meant to be dispatched) and they said that "After checking, I can see we have 3 stocks of this item on the way to our warehouse, it will take 3-4 working days."

So while the listing said "Low Stock" it should instead have said something like "Pre-order" or "Back-order" which is ultimately what it turned out to be.

Moral of the story, for the seller I interacted with at the very least, they weren't able to show correct stock levels and I ended up back ordering a product that I was told was in stock. So if you're impatient like me and want your items fast, I wouldn't trust the Kogan 3rd party stores' product pages.

    To tell the short version

Happy to read the long version too if you have it

The item originally listed for an introductory low price, but quickly went OOS/Sold out. I had messaged the seller the same day and they said it came back into stock, by the time I checked it went OOS again. It then was re-listed at a slightly higher price and as "Low Stock".

      Sequel
I have requested a refund and found the same item on eBay for only ~$5 more, this item was bought last night, has already had a tracking number attached and will arrive on Tuesday, which I can't be sure now since I've asked for (and will presumably get) a refund, but I figure it will end up being quicker than had I just waited for this item to eventually arrive one day.

Hard to know stock levels when you're just a fella earning commission from chinese factory owners by listing their products for them on local websites - oh wait I mean dropshipper.

So, much the same as sellers on eBay?

    • Well see on eBay either it's a 1 and done item or it specifically says X/X available, sellers also post that they're away occasionally in terms of delay in posting something.

You can get bad luck though I guess, I haven't had much in the past 15 years of using it.

      • My point is exactly that, you can be lucky and you can be unlucky, with all online sellers through all similar platforms. I don't see Kogan as being the problem with this.

Very rarely I'd bother with a 3rd party seller on Kogan. There's just zero recourse through Kogan, who are already pretty crap to deal with.

Half the stuff is likely to not even be local stock anyway.

it would be different for every individual seller and how they manage their stock and how they update their merchant back end. If their selling on Kogan, catch, ebay, amazon etc; if they havnt got a setup were all platforms update in sync then it will be a problem.

I wouldn't put one bad experiance on all 3rd party sellers.
a majority have good stock management systems in place.

    • Yep absolutely fair. This is just one example where it was out of sync so possibly bad luck by me too and lots of other people have a better experience, hope so.
