There have been deals recently on Samsung/Sony/LG 40-42" 3D TVs for less than $800. I am looking to purchase a branded TV of about that size but I do not require any 3D feature. Any deals out there that would suit my needs?

I'm not sure you'll get many 3D tvs that aren't 3d capable (it seems to be a standard feature these days). Remember they work fine as a normal tv, just the remote has a 3D button.
Mainly I do not require the capability, so without it I'd imagine a drop in the price.
Are you sure you want LED/LCD over plasma? I would recommend plasmas to anyone because my impression is that the image quality is usually superior. That is rather a generalisation - all I'm saying is give it a second thought.
maybe OP wants low power consumption?
Sure. But I'm sceptical there will be a significant difference these days. You can view the extra running costs allows for a better TV.
I am aware of the sharpness in quality but yes I do have in mind lower power consumption and longer life duration of the technology behind the screen (since plasmas have a relatively short lifespan).
Oh yea, I forgot to say that I would also like it to be LED/LCD and not plasma.
