Haval H9 Ultra or LDV D90 Exec 4WD

Good day fellow OzB…

Anyone experience/currently own/the previous owner of either of these AWD cars??? Or even just owned the other model before but within these brands.

Can please share your own experience???

Any issue with the car itself??? Engine or accessories??? Or anything at all that lead you to claim the warranty repairs.

Their prices on the road are at least 50% less than the Japanese brands and other similar category cars.

Do these cars lack any power? Do they perform as they should be???

If you choose to buy one of these, which one will you buy and why???

If you recently bought it, how much you pay for it? Which state?

        If you don't trust what I believe is the largest Oz car site, then why would you trust we anonymous people who could post anything?

        Go to dealers and drive them.

          BMW X5 won 4wd of the year once in one of the biggest 4wd magazines… even though it didnt compete in all the tests..

          there is a big difference between you own a car for several years and you jump in for a few test swing for a week and wrote a review of liking the car or not…

          the car itself won't tell you… "hey mate I'm gonna broke down in 3 years so good luck" kind of things…

          not sure if above clear to you…

          let's say if you owned or still own D90 from the year 2017 and been using it for 3 years but get rid of it because you have bla bla bla issues… I can tell you this mate.. you won't find in any review even from the world best car website… this is a personal experience with the brand and car model… unless you own the brand car for some years otherwise… written reviews are just a BS… paid well and you got a good review.

          of course, no car is perfect… some cars got defects even from top tier brands… but what is the probability of that defects and how the manufacturer have overcome that

          I'm not judging the brand but those cars do improve in years… tested in early years even used it as loan car but the newest model does indeed looks better internally.

      I would buy an LDV. I nearly got a T60 as my work car, (they were unwilling to negotiate in 2020 on a 2019 plated vehicle) Got a few friends who have LDV vehicles (D90, G10, T60's), and for the most part, they tend to like them. From memory, they paid about $20~$40k less than a similarly spec'd Toyota/Isuzu/Ford/etc.

      I guess it all depends on how much brand snobbery you are willing to fork out for…

      I owned a Great Wall V200, bought new in 2012 and never had an issue with it. Great for what I paid for it. Mates all laughed at me and said it will be worth nothing in 5 years. After 5 years I ended up selling it for 1/2 it's value and lost something like $13k. They all traded up their Hilux, Rangers and Isuzus and lost 50% of their value in similar time frames which equated to $25+k in depreciation on average. They lost more than what I paid in total for my vehicle. I could have taken the Great Wall to a metal scrapping yard and still have lost less money than they did on their twin cabs.

      Haval I am still on the fence. Don't know enough people that own them.

            @pegaxs: if in China, we are to expect paying a price of bronze and to get gold…. even Japanese manufacturer can't do this…

            we saw Chinese manufacture a lot of top brand tier products too…

            Put it this way… Apple is selling nearly $2k for a top tier iPhone 12… expect that to just $1k… I bet you are less getting halves of that iPhone durability and quality.

        I got the same old good experience with Great wall… when they entered Oz market… My ex-emp CFO was cutting fleet cost all ford and holden cars/utes were replaced (when it was due) to Great wall.

        My first great wall… fair to say… engine-wise is absolutely fine… but the accessories just can't keep up with age and very poor quality as well… but that's what you paid for the price…

        looking for sleek niche feels… obviously you need to pay more…

        Haval is Great Wall. They changed the brand name couple years ago.

    Where did you get that from? Petrol D90 is $44k driveaway, diesel is $49k driveaway. Pajero Sport GLX is $48k driveaway, or a GLS Deluxe is $56k driveaway. And while the current model is pretty antiquated, a MU-X LS-M is $47k driveaway, or a LS-U is $51k driveaway. I'd spend the extra.

      Ignore the LDV. You buy them for staff you don't like.

      The H9 is spec'ed closer to the $61k exceed and higher than Isuzu's $55k range topping LS-T. Size wise it's more similar to a Prado or a proper Pajero (with the 90's styling, but not Mitsubishi's 90's shape). Yes, the regularly $65k Ford Everest is significantly better appointed, but it is also a size smaller.

    2Yrs After owning the car. Having more issues and HAVAL doesnt seem to be interested in fixing it. Problems from day one. Better to skip this car , I suppose. I will try again to contact them and get it sorted.

    Engine noise creeping into cabin
    Bad vibrations at speeds above 100 and gets worse the faster you go, Which Gets Very uncomfortable at times on long freeway drives. Hoping to get it fixed through warranty (5 yrs).
    Central Locking malfunctions.

    They are budget for a reason. Possibly the reason is they aren’t built as well, another possible reason is they are trying to buy market share and don’t have a brand tax added.

    Isnt Havel the SUV branch of the Great Wall company?

    Go and test drive them. Be objective. It won’t be worth as much when you sell it, but you don’t pay as much up front. Will you keep it longer than the warranty period?

    Would I buy one? Probably not, but I don’t buy new cars.

      have tested drive the older year model… but the brand is relatively new hence it back me off to go ahead….

      the testing drive will only temporarily telling you how the car is performed. But what I'm trying to understand is, will the car really last? Or current/ex owner experienced an issue with the car… either engine or accessories or anything else.

        Test driving and inspecting the vehicle should give you a feel for how well built it is in comparison to a Toyota. Yes, It’s only temporary, but getting a feel for the build quality which should help inform you.

        The most important thing to consider is length of ownership if you are interested in buying. If it’s of unknown quality you should consider selling it on once warranty is out. If you want a long term vehicle, well past warranty get something that is well proven.

    I purchased a Haval H2 in January, did a lot of research and to be honest, I had a budget of 22k and I really wanted a brand new car. Dealership let me test drive it over a weekend, and I put it through it's paces, come Monday I was sold on the car. You will get heaps of people who will compare to either the old Great Walls imported by Ateco who are completely shit to deal with (I also had an alfa romeo once and warranty was a nightmare with them), or will out-rightly write the car off based on the fact that it is Chinese. What I can tell you is…

    The H2 has

    • A built under licence copy of the 1NZ-FE 1.5L Toyota Yaris engine, mated to a Borg Warner Turbo kit.
    • Delphi ECU and engine management.
    • Bosch ABS, brake booster and ESP.
    • Webasto moonroof.
    • Transmission is the Hyundai Powertech 6AT. Exact same ones found in Kia/Hyundai 6 Speed Autos.
    • Multilink suspension in rear and MacPherson strut in the front (no other car in the class or price point have multilink rear suspension, all are solid rear axle).
    • 7 Year manufacturer warranty, backed by the parent company GWM, not Ateco.
    • ANCAP 5 Star safety rating (2017 tested).

    I cant speak to the longevity of the paint, frame or interior because I haven't owned it for long enough, nor can I guess what it will be worth in a few years when its time to trade, but consider doing the research and making an objective decision based on the car's actual merits. Also, the new Haval's look really good, the new H6 and Jolion are also potentially worth a look in.

      Chinese car makers tend to use locally designed and manufactured parts under the multinational brand, not the brand's international parts. I have had nothing to do with Havel, so they might be the exception.

      My understanding is Hyundai, like many manufacturers, licenced their drive trains from Mitsubishi then put several decades into developing them. It's not an insult. But everyone has moved to Getrag for a reason (including Haval).

      I doubt any FWD has a solid rear axle. A torsion beam is a non coiled spring. It can perform extremely well, like in a corvette, or very poorly, like in a sub $25k rwd ute (yes, some brands call a torsion beam an axle…they are wrong).

      The price, features, warranty and ANCAP rating are what stands out about Havel's. Not parts bin prestige.

      in due time, they may take over some top tier brand… if the users find no bad experience with the car/brand…
      similar to toyota or other brands… confidence with them come in a very long time… not build in a day or two…
