Star Wars Films - $9.99 Each, Star Wars - Skwalker Saga (9 Films) $69.99 @ Apple iTunes Store

80

Star Wars films heavily discounted on iTunes store front, $9.99 each. All titles have recently upgraded to 4K Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos with mixed results. FYI, they are available on Disney + but they lack the small uptick in quality from improved bit-rates of the iTunes equivalents.

The Full "Skywalker" saga is also available for $69.99 which gives you access to the 9 main films (and extras) including everyone's favorite sequel trilogy :)

Sorry, no Star Wars Holiday Special available.

If you exclude The Last Jedi, you can save $9.99

Let me rephrase that. If you exclude the prequels and the Rise of Skywalker, you will get half decent Star Wars movies. Here you go. You're welcome.

PS: actual real star wars fan here.

Not a fan of the sequel series at all but if after some demo worthy material for home theater (ie. 4K DV), they do shine.

      • This guys gets it.

You are a fan, but don't like it? Doesn't make sense.

They're all garbage except for IV, V and VI.

  • Cheaper than their usual price, but still seems a bit pricey to me.

4K iTunes is still lower quality than 1080p blu-rays, so don't know that it's worth paying the extra if you already have Disney+

    • wait is it really worse than 1080p? damn..

      • -1

Blu-ray is a LOT better quality than streaming. Easily noticeable without even a side-by-side comparison, especially if you have a 50" or larger TV or a projector (and/or a good surround sound system).

4K streaming tends to be close to 1080p blu-ray in quality - some aspects of the image are slightly worse, some are slightly better, but the sound is clearly better on blu-ray.

And that's on very fast internet, not the kind most Australians have.

        • Except, if the 4K movies support HDR, which makes them better. The new Apple TV 4K will have twice the frame rate for HDR video thanks to the HDMI 2.1 port.

How much better is the small uptick to iTunes bit rate?

Is it like going closer to physical disk bluray or 4K bluray?

I find most streaming not exactly same as the physical disc but iTunes gets close but more like closer to bluray disc than the 4K master.

I not tried Disney+ yet, curious to know if their streaming is better looking/sounding as iTunes?

    • Ok I'll try and answer a few of these qs:

      • iTunes uptick is subtle but it is an improvement over Disney + equivalents. It's only available through the Apple 4K TV unit though, as they limit bit-rates through in Apple TV televison app. There is information out there about this from bluray.com but sorry, can't find exact link.

      • Closer to 4k Disc. Great video from Vincent on a comparison between 4K UHD Disc and Disney+ 4K Dolby Vision content:

My advice is to try Disney + for a month and have a gander at the content to see what you think.

I still buy physical media but love the convenience of having the extras, avoiding lost discs etc that comes from iTunes library.

    • Based on bitrate, the 4K UHD disc is superior to the streaming version, even though Star Wars IV 4K UHD blu-ray is only encoded at 47.81 Mbps (the spec allows up to 144Mbps for the dual-layer 66GB disc). Most of the streaming services recommend 25 Mbps for 4K UHD.

Will you notice a difference on a 65" TV (like mine)? Probably not, although the downside of streaming is that it will automatically ratchet down to a lower resolution if your internet bandwidth is being impacted elsewhere. This can make a movie less enjoyable for my wife as I shout and curse at the TV screen.

Yeah you definitely want a stable internet connection for this kind of content. Think iTunes movies for 4K DV and DA streaming suggest 40 Mbps minimum from memory.

There is lots of risks with streaming and investing in a library with DRM but Apples policy on free 4K Upgrades, robust streaming quality etc. makes me believe they will be around for awhile.

IMHO, I have a 65" too and find that as long as your TV has a decent dynamic range, motion interpolation settings and upscaling capabilities; iTunes content is a clear winner when compared to other streaming services.

      4, 5, and 6 you mean?

ROTJ is bad. Space battle is sick. Rest is not good. Even the Jaba stuff.

Edit - Sorry the vader / luke stuff is great but is weighed down to much by ewok comedy antics

      My man !!

The Skywalker Saga ends with Return of the Jedi, when Anakin was redeemed and Palpatine blown to bits with his Death Star.

Please be aware that Apple can remove movies and TV shows that you have purchased at any time and without warning. Unlike apps that you've purchased from the App Store which can still be downloaded after they've been removed, this is not the case for movies and TV shows. You can still play them if you have previously downloaded them but if you didn't do this then you cannot download them and you cannot stream them on an Apple TV etc. And Apple will not offer a refund.

    • I have over 900 movies in my library and haven't noticed any go missing yet.

    • I’ve always received a refund if it happens. I’ve had it happen to the simpsons Micheal Jackson episode and a few other things.

      • Because of this "no refund" issue, I only buy movies that fall to $4.99 and TV shows at $9.99

However, is the rule now they will refund you if they stop streaming one of your purchases?
