I wish I could bite but still waiting for VIC scooter laws to relax

    • +5

I ride mine in VIC. Police have seen me many times and no issues so far

      • In the city or suburbs?

        • +4

In WA people ride them literally everywhere and we don't even have laws saying people can use them in the first place. Personally I use an electric skateboard and have ridden past police all the time with no issues. Obviously different cities but I think the rule of thumb is don't be an idiot and they'll leave you be.

@marcosis: I could be wrong but I don't think the laws in other states explicitly rule out electric scooters, rather the law blanket-rules out a class of 'vehicles', which scooters fall under even though the laws were (likely?) created before scooters a thing.

And then you have some cops either having a bad day, trying to raise revenues, or just being very black and white in their application of the law

            ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • been riding heaps in Melbourne, in the city and inner city. rode past police many times. Generally okay unless they're running a operation like they did in Southbank not too long ago.

I have been eyeing this for a while but between laws and how difficult tyre changes are I'm quite hesitant still

    • my solution is daily prayers to never get a puncture

    • 10" tyres are easy, got a pinch flat the other day on mine, doesn't take long as the rims split. The 8" ones like the Pro 2 above.. yeah, if you are pinch flatting, pump the tyres up more, if you are running over thorns or nails a lot, not much you can do about that unless you replace the tyres with solids like this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001202643415.html

My suggestion ? Spring for a scoot with 10" wheels, suspension and split rims. My parter has the Pro 2 above (never got a flat) and sold it after 6 months for a Kaboo Mantis. Suspension makes a world of difference and the ability to go up steep roads. I have the Kaboo Mantis Pro. She uses hers to go to work. We don't have a car anymore. Didn't use it for 3 months so just went wtf and sold it.

      • Holy shit batman, can I be your sidekick! $4,000 vs $600, I think I'd have kept the Batmobile instead.

No offense, just saying it's not even a comparison when it's $4,000 vs $600.

  • Is the eBay plus 50$ credit for joining membership still ongoing? Tempted to get this scooter but I don't have ebay plus right now…

Edit: turns out it's still ongoing

    • +1

can you use the 50$ credit with a promo code though? I don't think you can.

      • Yeah I just found out the hard way. I spent my 50 voucher on Coles instead

  • I have this one….been riding in VIC havnt had a problem yet.

  • Been riding this in Canberra for a month or so. Recommend, great scooter.

  • How well is this on grass? Thinking of camping ground.

    • +2

get something with suspension because this rides very bumpy on non-flat surfaces

      • Thanks for the feedback.

      • +1

In that case, what would you suggest? Ninebot ones?

  • +1

    bought 1 from previous deal.

Well constructed & arrived in a few days from ordering.

p.s. I'm nearly 120kg & flashed the Monopattinoitalia sport FW & haven't had any issues thus far - touch wood! I generally use the Normal mode as that's quick enough to ride around.

  • Should I buy this or the $125 cheaper 1s. I live in hilly area up North in Westmeadows Melbourne. But I wouldn't use it around the hills that much though. With the unwilling current legislation it's hard to justify for this 300W motor, given the 1s 250W is already above the 200W limit. The 300W will give it a bit more push up the hill though and the footrest area is bit bigger too. But given both are not water resistant it's not very sensible to pay more for the Pro 2. Probably the next version will get waterproof feature. Also Pro 2 is 1.7kg heavier, that's like another laptop in your hands if you need to carry the scooter. I am really in two minds. Is it easy to walk this thing up the hill for 50 metres or so then continue using it?

    • I have the Pro 2, I'm 95kg and live in a hilly area. Need to get off and walk on most hills that are decent. I drop down to about 10kmh so would rather walk and save the massive battery draw. Most small inclines it can handle and I drop to about 15kmh; all at full throttle.

    • Where are you seeing the 1S for $125 cheaper?

      • On ebay from mi official store. They jacked up the price to 699 now, I haven't made it in time either.

      • Next option is Kogan

  • Ok, I’ve pulled the trigger after waiting and watching.

    A couple quick questions.

    • How do you lock it up? I’m guessing something like a bike U lock would be ok?

    • Can you carry it with a strap or something? For those times where I zoom to the shops quickly, I figure it’d be easier to just sling it over my shoulder. Am I mad?

    • +1

bike U lock through the back wheel.

I havent found a strap, but if you did find out, I think its rather heavy to be carried on a strap. It's really not that light to be able to swing over your shoulder.

    • +1

Another user said they pop it under or in the trolley while in the store

  • We have M365,1S and Pro 2
No difference between 1s and Pro 2 at all.
I hacked to top speed. Both 30klm same speed pick up.
    Never ran out of battery.

Kids ride it to school daily. No issue from cops or school.

    In qld

  • What do people recommend as a good physical lock for this scooter?

    • any decent D lock that you can get from bike stores will work, via the backwheel.

  • Bought one after waiting and waiting. Cheers op
