What to Do with Monitors with a Dead Pixel?

I bought a Kogan 32" QHD IPS FreeSync 75Hz Frameless Monitor (2560 x 1440). I use it for mainly WFH (95% office use and 5% Starcraft 2) - I'm happy with the monitor. This is the first time I bought a monitor from Kogan and a Kogan branded monitor.

After about 3 months of using it, I then found one dead pixel in the middle of the upper right quadrant of the screen. It's small, but now I can't unsee it! Because I'm using spreadsheets and word docs, it's more obvious.

I spoke with Kogan's support team and they were pretty good. They emailed me a return label so I can send it back to them for their technicians to "inspect" the dead pixel, but they said that it might cost me money for shipping if the technicians can't find a problem. Now what to do next?

Can you share your experiences with buying new monitors:
Are dead pixels always expected regardless of brand or panel? Should I just suck it up and ingore the dead pixel since it will always be there anyway? Or should I just buy a Dell to minimise the risk of getting a dead pixel out of the box?

I'm thinking of getting a Dell S3221QS if Kogan gives me a refund.

Dead pixels do not happen often. Just use what you've got - a replacement will likely be the same.

Dead pixels do not happen often. Kogan monitors are fine - ask for a replacement .

Well a dead pixel's a dead pixel. If you can see the dead pixel, then they can't say there's nothing wrong with it, because there is.

I have been using the same Samsung monitor for 3 years now, no problems at all.

    • Do they use Samsung panels for Kogan monitors? I didn't know that!

on the upside, you've got 3,686,399 live pixels
    .

    • So are you saying that you should always expect less than 3,686,400 working pixels when buying QHD monitors?

  • Sometimes they can get stuck I've heard, you can use these colour changer apps to try to unstick it, I think it just runs through a bunch of different colours, though I have no idea if they actually work?

Also did you pay by paypal? They might be able to give you money back for shipping?

Whether it’s the wrong thing, the wrong size, the wrong colour or you simply changed your mind, we can refund your return shipping costs on eligible PayPal purchases with Refunded Returns.*

    • It's actually a dead pixel. The Kogan rep asked me to run some youtube videos to un-stick a stuck pixel, but after 30 minutes, it is still black.

I just used my plain old credit card to purchase the monitor so no Paypal.

  • did you send a photo of the dead pixel to customer support ?

    • Yes I did. They gave me the RMA paperwork.

  • What to Do with Monitors with a Dead Pixel?

I returned mine and got another.

    • I returned mine and got another.

Did they replace it with another monitor with a dead pixel?

  • Cover it up with a sticker.

    • like an oil light on dashboard?
      .

    • What a terrific idea!

Wait a sticker might be too large. I'll try and pick out a spec of dust for that single pixel!

  • I bought a pre loved monitor and didn't notice a stuck red pixel until I did diagnostics on it or if a completely black screen is on. TBH, it irks me to know it's there, but 95% I don't even see it. Right now, I'm trying to see it and I know exactly where it is, but because I'm on a webpage and not a dark screen, I can't even see it.

I tell myself, I'll get a new monitor when the 27 inch 1440p monitors come down in price and truthfully, the recent sales have been very tempting. But in all honesty, It doesn't bother as much as think it does.

  • A Replacement should be okay, but if you have any doubt, grab a replacement.

  • My MSI 34" ultrawide has a clear stuck pixel very top left corner but it's not noticeable in games or movies so I'll live it with
