  • Whats the catch?
Seems like its only valid till 31st of January… and the offers been going on since Feb 1 2011…

    • I just bought mine today. The $40 cashback is from the manufacturer. Just by chance Chemist Warehouse had these items on discount as well. From what I can see there doesn't seem to be any catches.

the sting occurs when you have to buy strips …

      • and buying those needle thingos.
Similar concept to "buy a cheap printer" but the ink cartridges are a killer.

that said it always good to be able to check or blood sugar levels ourselves i guess.

  • Could be even a better bonus if you can also claim against you Health Fund Extras?

    • I had to send in my original invoice for the cashback though.

      • +2

        I've doubled dipped.
Just get the chemist to print 2 receipts (they should easily do this), then take one to your health fund provider as well.
Just remember that some health funds require the your name to be on the receipt as well, as some don't pay on a generic print out, as i had to go back to the chemist when we couldn't claim on behalf of my mother-in-law as the receipt wasn't in her name

        • I believe that could be considered insurance fraud. You should be careful.

  • the price of strips
unless ur a diabetic, the strips cost more than the machine each time ya get some

    • +2

is there a reason why people would need this if they're not diabetic?

      • Did you just buy one 'cos they were "free"? :)

      • +2

you can claim free battery posted once a year. That cost at least 4 bucks!

      • Maybe they could measure their glucose level when feeling "low" &
have more data (ie, more than just the report of that feeling) to
        take along to their GP.

Type 2 Diabetes comes later in Life, especially for those of us,
who have eaten lots of sweet things, in earlier Life.

That may also apply to couch potatoes, if memory serves,
who don't get much exercise in their Lives.

        YMMV.

PS If you don't need yours, so maybe be a mensch, &
give it to someone who does; if Aussies get 'em free
or subsidized when need, send yours to a poor country
        whose folks DON'T enjoy such benefits… :-)

There must be a Lions or other charity, who collect
donated gear for shipment to overseas places of need.

      • being an ozbargainer I don't buy things because I need them but because they are on sale/free.

    • Are you serious! The strips cost more than FREE!!!

    • +1

      $15 if you're diabetic

      • +2

yep so unless ur a diabetic , its pricy!
also the strips are cheaper if you join the diabetic assoication (like a buck or two for a box)

    • from the product description:

      • Small blood sample
Accu-Chek Performa test strips only require a tiny 0.6L sample

      What?

  • +1

This is not a deal, they are given away free as the main income is selling the test strips.

    • And in most cases, the strips are heavily subsidised by the government. That means you and me are paying the free gift! What a scam!

      • +1

I agreed but this is a free market and if it is legal, good on them.

      • So, by you, anyone who ever accesses their Medicare benefits is scamming?!?

If you don't like the system, perhaps there's another place on the planet you'd like better. (Michael Moore's doco "Sicko" suggested,
that France has some pretty good benefits; Cuba was also mentioned)

Enjoy learning French or Spanish… & - if you find a better place
        - let the rest of us know, you might just start a new tradition…

        :-)

  • Ah, the "Razor and blades" model.

  • my mother-in-law could use this… thanks.

  • This deal has been on and off at CWH for about a year.. Cheap if you have the NDSS card but strips are about $50 without it..
Main customer complaint was how long they had to wait to get the money back, had one customer complain that it took six weeks.

    • 6 weeks is long? We wait months with acer. Same with Amex and coke unleashed.

  • A while ago, Intel used to give away the (then new) i4040 CPU…

so folks would have to buy their RAM memory chips (to make useful systems)

This deal seems like a similar offer… and quick OK.

PS If anyone is concerned about the $50 / 100 test strips price,
maybe they can buy some along with the device, at Chemist Warehouse, as
they might well be undercutting the competition's price for strips…?

(It couldn't hurt to check the price, while there, in any case.)

  • got one of these a while back for free with their cash back promo. I bought this to practise on people (im a nursing student), strips were about $20-30 when i bought them.
