ALDI Appliance Support Unacceptable

Bread maker motor belt has disintegrated. No replacement parts available any longer. No apologies.

Cordless drill battery died. No replacement parts available any longer. No apologies.

They may have a 'no questions asked' replacement policy, but anything outside of warranty period - you're up the creek.

Thanks Aldi, it's been nice knowing you.

    Sure, thanks.

    Cordless drill battery died

Get a known brand next time. I would not cheap out here.Unless I see it as a disposable item when it breaks down then I bin it, but that contributes to landfill.

You can get a drill battery repacked, if you can get some measurements from the drive motor belt you can always find replacements online, though in its current state that could be difficult.

    • run a piece of string around the pulleys to get the length and search '8A200 v belt' or whatever the belt profile is.

Buy it cheap, buy it twice.

Outside of warranty…I stopped reading there

    • You'd read anything useful by that stage.

  • How long was the warranty?
How long did you have these items?
    How much did they cost?

Unfortunately the state of our world. Once out of warranty then you are on your own.

I usually look for products which is either rebrand (ie Aldi coffee machines are K Fee rebrand) which you can get decent after market parts. Otherwise you're taking a chance.

Hopefully you bought with a credit card with extended warranty and they will pick up the cost.

    • I was going to mention this. With my work, we deal with manufacturers who make items for Aldi. I'm not sure which items, but if you can find a rebrand you're in a much better place for after market parts.

What has your experience with purchasing other cheap appliances/electronics been like in terms of obtaining replacement parts outside of the warranty period?

  • No ragrets. No apologies.

  • Don't cheap out on electronics at Aldi unless they are rebadged from a better known brand (IE as mentioned about, the Aldi coffee machine is a K-Fee). You've learnt enough times now to know this.

  • I agree with your frustration re spare parts. If they can't be stuffed selling parts then they shouldn't sell the item at all IMO! Hardly a problem unique to ALDI though.

… but anything outside of warranty period - you're up the creek.

How long do you think they should keep making parts for old products? These are cheap products. If they are to manufacture spare parts "just in case", the cost of it (not just the manufacture but also that of storage and distribution) has to be paid for by someone and that someone is going to be the end-buyer. That is, you.

Also, you haven't even mentioned how long you are outside the warranty.

check the original for markings and get the dimensions then look for something compatible on aliexpress or ebay

    • Yes heaps of spares on eBay.

Re Aldi products, do you expect known brand quality (including support) for dirt cheap price? That is, a free lunch.

Or are you realistic and expect limited support for dirt cheap price?

Aldi don't just have one supplier - they change with deal. The best you can do is look up the product code or pic and see if you can find similar Chinese product sold elsewhere.

  • Well, if the warranty is 12 months, at their prices, they were engineered to last 13 months. You get what you paid for.

Put it this way, if you intending to keep the unit for a long time, pick a better quality brand with longer warranty.

If it is only a belt issue you should be able to get a similar size replacement belt from ebay or aliexpress. I had a similar issue with my oztio cement mixer. Belt was gone about 3 uses and bunnings said the replacement belt was obseleted and with no help to get it fixed. They basically told me to buy a new one. I managed to buy a similar size replacement belt via aliexpress.

  • I'm an electronics engineer in a service department. I repair products that are 20 years old. We keep spares.
    It's called service.

      Finally, a response from OP.

How much does your employer charge for repairing a 20-year old product?
Surely these are not still under a warranty?
