Looking to rent a car in Launceston, any recommendation for local car rental companies that have reduced excess waiver reduction? I know the all the big car rental companies offer such an option, though they all charge an additional $25/day or more!
There's a company in Sydney/Perth call Bayswater Car Rental that have standard excess of $300 as part of their prices.
Anything similar in Launceston?

Another way to "reduce" the excess is to get some travel insurance - car rental excesses are covered usually, but to a set amount.
I'm not sure how much cheaper bargain car rentals is, but the major companies have discounts for rentals in Australia through frequent flyer programs eg virgin velocity, qantas frequent flyer etc, and they're all free to join (qantas ff - join through woolies everyday rewards for free). There's also a Hertz global sale on at the moment - it is plastered all over their front page.
Have a look at drivenow and combine with travel insurance from 1cover to reduce your excess.
The last time I was there (in Nov 2010), I rented from a company called Bargain Car Rentals. I actually rented from Hobart airport but they also have a branch in Launceston. Their standard excess was $750 for 25+ aged drivers (so not as expensive as the big companies) and their rates were very competitive. I paid $262 for 5 days for a Toyota Camry and the car was very very new and was really happy with everything.

Give them a try and see what they can offer you. By the way, I really enjoyed my trip to Tassie, it's a beautiful place. The thing I loved the most was the drive on the Heritage Hwy from Hobart to Launceston.
