not surprised, amazon only price match. I rather go bigw to get it

      • +3

i'd rather amazon freight it to me and save me the 45m+ drive, but that's just me.

        • +5

I do the same but feel guilty about it. All that excessive Amazon packaging, delivery, handling, it's nuts…

        • I live near bigw. No amazon prime for me and under $39.

        • +1

          You could walk the 45m.

          • @Richfield: It's actually a 54m drive to the nearest Big W, or…

if i want to walk, there are 3 options:

            10hr 35m via river road,
10hr 48m via river rd and sackville ferry
or 11hr 22m via Wisemans Ferry Road

If I leave now, I would be back by dinner time tomorrow.r

And for reference, there are a lot of us in the same boat with no stores within cooee of us.

  • Lemme get my plastic delivered in some plastic for $5 so I can drink some water in bulk 🤦🏻‍♂️

    • +1

The picture clearly suggests this product for orange juice only… Orange juice that is also packaged in plastic and is $5 ;)

      • +2

Could we not just reuse the original container from the orange juice?

        • +6

I tried that but the orange halves wouldn't stay upright and spilled my juice

        • @Gigiolo Shhhhh… don't tell anyone this. It will destroy the economy ^-^

      • Ha!

    • +4

Maybe some people want to refrigerate their water..

      • Rinse out a bottle. Nobody cares what your water receptacle looks like. And if you do, time to evaluate your life 😂

        • +5

I need to evaluate my life because I care what jug I use to store my water in? Is free will not a thing anymore? You go around judging people for spending $5 on a jug? Imo, you're the one that need to evaluate your life mate.

          • @buckethat: Yes - you do. And yes, maybe I need to evaluate my life too, but that shouldn't detract from the fact that the same applies to you if bargain water storage is on your list of things that matter!

        • You shouldn't reuse a existing bottle too long without cleaning it, and its kind of hard to clean normal soft drink/juice bottles etc. Much better off with something like this that you can put in the dishwasher at high temps.

          • @Cronium: That's a fair point but I still feel like there are some pretty good environmental reasons to try and re-use existing plastics you've got in the house. I am sure you could make it work with a little extra effort. Plus how often and how thoroughly are you cleaning water bottles?! It's got water in it, just rinse it out. Why are you steam cleaning water recepticals?!

microwave safe? nothing like reheating all of your left overs & eating out of a jug

  • +2

    Ideal to refill windscreen washer

    Nice jugs…

  • +1

I like using these to store my oats that I eat every morning :)

  • +6

Skip the plastic, go glass and save yourself $2

    • +1

      Save 50c more at kmart

    • I use the jug for cereal like a few others, they are slim, line them up on the shelf and the cereal doesn't go as stale for me compared to having it in the bag (sealed or not).

I've got similar glass one for the fridge water (cool it before sodastreaming it)

Not much of a bargain for a plastic container this size, though good quality and still cheap. A good low price for a 2 litre container with this much plastic is I'd say $3-4 for cheap plastic and $4-6 for high quality plastic (clear, BPA free, dishwasher/microwave/freezer safe). You can get stuff like this around this price if you look between a couple dollar shops or Big W / Kmart. So in that case it's better to avoid the wastage of per-item packaging and delivery, unless you drive out specifically to the shops to buy this. Good that this is made in Australia. Maybe in the future, the warehousing and transport system will be so efficient that you can buy small/insignificant stuff online and it will be more efficient than storing it in local shops and us all going out to the shops, but not currently.

    • What if you're like me and don't go to BIG W, KMART or DOLLAR SHOPS?

      • Then it's probably a good bargain for you. Not sure where else you can get this stuff.

      • Incidentally, how come? Is it because there's none in your area, you can't physically go to one, you don't like them, or something else I'm not thinking of?

    • Unsure why the neg though? I didn't realise i could neg everything my conscious thought could have a detrimental effect on something.

Whoops, accidentally hit "post comment", and can't delete my comment.

        • Hit votes up the top. You can revoke it

          • @4agte: Thanks. But I meant the comment. I was typing a reply and accidentally submitted it. Had to edit it and replace with that text. Should have been more clear.

      • I wasn't trying to take a stand on something with my comment/vote. My main reason was that it's not a good price for a plastic container this size. This is based on my extensive and highly professional recent experience in shopping for plastic containers in my area. (* sarcasm intended)

        • +1

Then please post samples of plastic container this size with a good price delivered?
The issue here is your negative vote is inappropriate - based on the reasons you provided.

          • @yomama: Will reply when I get time.

          • @yomama: This is not delivered unless you buy more or pay for Amazon Prime.

Though I admit I don't follow jug prices, I managed to retrieve a relevant photo from my "small plastic container" pricing collection (I did say I was professional, right?):
            * Last year Dollars and Sense was selling these pitchers (cheaper plastic, probably the same size) for $4
            https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/336684/88392/2020-01_p…

To give a reference for the price of plastic-molded stuff by size when particularly cheap:
            * Kmart sells nice 1.5-litre food containers for ~$2 (also, see here and sort by price)
            * Woolworths has 1/2 price on "Systema" plastic containers. You can get a pack-of-2 of 7.9-litre containers for $7.50 ($3.75 each)

Given that and the variety of similar stuff in dollar-shops/supermarkets, I'm assuming they would have jugs like this at the same price commonly.

    • I removed my negative vote since I'm no expert on this site's voting system and it was apparently so disputed. Was going to be temporary but can't re-vote.

  • Hope the sticker peels off easily so that it doesn't look awkward when using water

  • I got a 1L glass water jug from daisy for $2.80. I don't think this is a bargain.
