Electric Knife Sharpener Recommendations Sought

My Kleva knife sharpener keeps coming loose. Suction cup is clean and surface is smooth, but common problem apparently. I am looking for an electric sharpener and would appreciate any recommendations. There are some USB rechargeable models around but they seem to have a limited usage time, so maybe 240V would be preferable. Any comments or recommendations would be appreciated.

If I had good knives - I think I would stay clear of an automatic sharpener and just stick to a manual one.

Something like the Global one - I guess depending on the knife because Japanese knives have a different edge to European knives………….i think?

    • I have Wusthof knives, and i use one of those ones that you drag the knife through (also use a honing knife). Every 6 months, I'll also send them in to get professionally sharpened. If i owned Japanese branded knives, i would be using a whet stone

    • Yes, European and Asian knives have a different angle.

Get a whetstone and learn how to use it

  • If you have $3 knives from China, then use an electric sharpener. If you any other knife, do not .

  • Whetstone, bit of elbow grease, much better results.

I asked at Bunnings and they said they don't stock it…

        Ask around.
I had to visit a few before i found one that had it.

        • Thanks. I'll check again tonight. I drive past a few stores on the way home.

  • My cooking knives I sharpen by hand. However, I have about 20 bog standard cutlery knives that, like most knives in a cutlery set, struggle to cut a sausage let alone a steak. I would prefer to have them nicely sharp and mass sharpen them.

    • May be dangerous if the dinner conversation takes a turn ;)

      • If all the knives are sharp then it’s an equal playing field.

        • This is true

  • I used to use a 4" grinder with a worn sanding disk to sharpen knives.
But along comes these smaller faster spinning things called dremmel.
I would use the stone attachment, keep it moist and not too fast.
I have not tried that way, but it should work, I used to be a mechanic,
so doing these things are easy for me.
I use Kleva Sharp® Master ATM, but when that goes south I will use my dremell. You will always have a dremel to do other things if you go down that path.
I accidentally searched for 'electric knife sharpener':-

how about a bench grinder? or is that over kill?
