Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G - Has Anyone Experienced The Touch Screen Issues?

So I was looking into the S20 FE 5G, as it's got just about everything I want in a phone, with improved camera and processor to the A52 5G which came out last week.

Through Samsung Education Store, and the $50 code, it brings it down to $750, same MSRP as the A52 5G.

Fully convinced I wanted it for my upcoming birthday, I've just found out at some people have touch issues with the screen, yet some don't, and others say it's fixed, others don't, and some say it's only an issue in certain regions.

So I was wondering if any Australians have had this issue!

A few members of Federal Parliament have had touch issues.

"it's only an issue in certain regions."

Most acute in 'Canberra bubble' apparently.

I have had touch screen issues with my initial screen, it also had a dead pixel within the first 3 weeks of receiving it.

After taking it back for a warranty replacement the touch issues seem to be mostly resolved.

    • Wondering, was the replacement offered for the touch screen issue or because it had the dead pixel?
My unit is having responsiveness issues to swiping on games which my old Sony doesn't. Thanks

      • I had mine replaced under the dead pixel - since replacing the responsiveness issue is better, but definitely sometimes still appears. Apparently the updates are meant to assist mitigating it, but I still have intermittent issues.

        • I see. Thanks for the reply. I had a chat online with Samsung and after doing a factory data reset swiping seems to be better. Also scrolling used to freeze if part of the palm was on the edge of the screen but not now.

          • @3sky: Same issues for me - in that case possibly the factory reset i did before handing the phone back for repair was my solution, not the screen replacement!

We've had ours since October, and never had any issues with touch screen - or anything, for that matter! It's a great phone.

    • Good to hear!

I have the S20FE 5G since release, and had touch issues on very rare occasions, it doesn't register the keyboard, or the scroll doesn't work. It is a very real issue. There was one time I needed to order at the restaurant and it wouldn't register. Very annoyed at that time.
I could probably say I've had the issue come up about 10-15 times since owning it.
I've read many owners on OzB that have not had issues and lucky to them.

I haven't noticed it recently though, that's why I still have it.

    • Interesting, what did you do in the situation? Did you have to restart?

      • restart. or just leave it. It's temperamental

I noticed the touchscreen issues on my S20FE 5G a couple of days after getting it in October 2020. I just assumed I wasn't hitting icons correctly since I wasn't used to the bigger screen coming from an S8.

Once I noticed the issue it was glaringly obvious. I found changing the screen refresh from 120Hz down to 60Hz helped but didn't eliminate the issue. After trying a few other suggestions from Reddit threads without much luck, I came across some posts referring to firmware updates being rolled out. A few days later it was available to me and fixed my issues.

Every now and then I still run "Touch Screen Test" if I suspect the issue has come back but so far so good.

  • I've had one since release too, and I've never had any issues…
There's an app 'touch screen test' which is free, and you can test your screen for those touch issues.

  • I don't have this issue but my music skips tracks a lot of the time without me doing anything. Does anyone else have this issue? Only with local music, not spotify.

  • New update supposedly fixes the issue (again):

I've noticed touchscreen issues 2 or 3 times in the 6 months I've owned the phone, so it's not something that would have affected my purchase decision.

My biggest gripe with the phone is the fingerprint sensor. It barely works for me, although the facial recognition feature helps a bit.
