Edifier Aurora MP300 Plus 2.1 Speakers - $39 Centercom

60

Hi all! I was looking at this set of Edifier Aurora 2.1 speakers, which retails for around 80 USD. I was very surprised to find that Centercom was selling the set for $39 AUD:

Unfortunately, the shipping cost was $18 to Canberra so the total came up to $57. Instead, I went to Officeworks and they pricematched it and gave me a 5% discount compared to the Centercom price, totaling $54.15.

However, as Centercom does not provide flatrate shipping, shipping to Victoria costs only $8.25. Thus if you are in Victoria and cannot reach a physical Centercom shop front, pricematching this speaker set at Officeworks would only cost $44.89!!

Centercom seems to be the best deal to buy it from, but because of my location in Canberra it was cheaper to get it from Officeworks.

This is an excellent compact 2.1 speaker set with very good reviews (also won many design awards) and I was more than happy to pay a low price compared to the RRP, however I would have preferred to be in Victora hahaha!!

Please note, the blue colour Officeworks stocks is different to the Centercom one, so you may have trouble pricematching.

  • I think in title it should be Edifier MP300 Plus Aurora 2.1 Speakers -$39 Centrecom

  • forget the OW price.. seems centre com has the better deal/

    • Thanks! I changed it! For me in Canberra it was cheaper to get it from Officeworks as the shipping cost $18!! Additionally, I uploaded an imgur link of the website as I can't change the domain away from imgur so I've asked a Mod to fix it. Also, I suspect this may be a pricing error on Centercom's behalf as I know they have mistyped prices in the past (i.e. This could be a speaker set for $93 mistyped as $39 - as I have seen small IT companies sell this set for over $100!) that is why I went straight to Officeworks! Sorry about the mess and Cheers!

      EDIT: Link has been fixed

  • On a lighter note…picked up a set of Logitech X140 from DSE the other day for $35. SLIGHTLY overpriced but I didn't want to wait. Combine them with the right input source and they go pretty hard for the price! Not perfect but fulfil the job ALOT better than the LS11 or the BXR1220's I have from Altec Lansing.

  • What's the difference between this and the one at MSY?

    • MSY has the older model for $35 AUD

      • Yes, so what's the difference between the older and the newer model?
        Besides the word Plus?

MSY's doesn't have Plus, The Officeworks model doesn't have the Plus on it as well.

If there's no difference, why not get OW to pricematch MSY's?

        • According to this page:

          http://www.edifier.com/eng2005/product/s0006_01.htm

The MP300 (named MP330 on that page) compared to Aurora MP300 plus:
15W RMS compared to 22W RMS (7W RMS less than the new model)
Speakers model of MP300 is at least as old as 2005
          MP300 Weighs about 100g more
MP300 has a Frequency response of 75Hz-20KHz compared to the newer 45Hz-25KHz (Lower frequency means deeper bass plus it has broarder upper end frequency however I don't know if you would notice the difference).
Subwoofer is longer on the MP300 Plus

Also, the officeworks page says Aurora on it so I don't think they would price match.

  • its good, but there isnt any power switch for this speaker.

    • +1

There is a volume up and volume down button on one of the satellites. If you hold both of them down at the same time it puts it into 'standby mode' which means that there is no output to any speakers and there is very little power consumption. I suspect the amp (or whatever supplies the power to the speakers) is turned off in this mode. It's kind of like when a laptop goes to sleep.

      • cool. nice info.. thanks.. some1 gave me this speaker, so i dont have its manual.

  • These look like the ones I tried at Costco Docklands on Thursday and they were pretty average. They were something like $49.00 there.

Instead, I got the Edifier M15 Plus set they had for $29.00
Stereo sound was way better on various music and TV shows from my phone, they take an SD card, so you can play files right off the card and it has an FM radio built in too.
Have been using them to watch shows on my break at work and I'd rapt with them.

  • I saw these exact speakers for $28 at EBGAMES at Uni Hill, VIC 2 days ago. They had them in black and white/silver. I cant see them on the EB website though.

  • I am currently using Edifer M3 Plus for 2 years, it works! It suffered from my laptop hot wind and my Xbox hot surface and survived for 2 years heavy use. The sound is rich and the bass are much better than any other similar sized speaker. Worth buying it!

for the price, i can't see why anyone would complain, sounds like a decent set of speakers!
