            So is sewerage and air-conditioning, that doesn't mean anything. The entire economy is man-made, and inflation is necessary for a growing population - if there was no real inflation while the population & economy was growing, that would mean productivity is rising without prices rising.

            From the labour perspective - would you continuously produce more work without asking for a payrise?

            Think through what is required to have a growing economy experience zero inflation - we haven't seen it in 150 years, and almost all the growth going on before that period was due to massive technological upheaval during the Industrial Revolution.

              If inflation is higher than your pay rise, how good is that?

              Sewerage is needed, unless you want to start dying like flies.

                @bargainparker: You pay more for less over time, but you get more for less too. Don't confuse the nominal price rise with the real price rise, and don't forget that your wage growth is someone else's inflation.

                There is no group in Australia for whom inflation is consistently higher than their income - even the dole is indexed to hold steady against inflation.

        Ahhh they now call them weekly specials and you have to scroll half way down the specials page - weird because in the main Coles site they are known as half price specials and it used to be a category under the specials menu like Woolworths.
